Agreed. Especially if they have their hats turned sideways and have the average 3.2 open container violations going on at the same time. Throw in a Gap sweatshirt or two and you have perfect car-bomb fodder.

Apologies to all for my off topic digression.

(now logging off to go to Hershey, take care!)

That they are two different cars is beyond question, so driving thoroughly before driving is imperative.

From my own perspective, I had the chance to take a good drive in a 3.2 Carrera this past summer and I would say it was the best car I've driven. Although my WRX is probably a wee bit quicker in a straight line, there was no getting past how involving the 911 is. 10K in good condition sounds like a good deal. For myself though, I would prefer a coupe. It was an excellent suggestion a few posts back to drive it with and without the top.

Look forward to hearing how it goes!

Later tonight I will post what the owner sent back in response to questions about the cars history. I am going to sell my soul to the devil to get this car. Anyone want a pretty clean solid 86 na?

Here is the reply I got from the owner about the car...
It was mostly in CA, he has owned for 18 years.
New rear axles and boots, clutch, cable and helix helper spring. Synchros were not needed.
New muffler/cat converter (CA smog legal)
Carrera (hydraulic) automatic tensioners, and cams resealed.
All calipers rebuilt. New brake pads last year. New, in box SS brake lines, same m/cyl.
Airbox pop-off valve, K&N air filter
Oil changed every three months.
Updated full power leather seats, new carpet
new rear seats/door panels (leather)
carrera front valence with recessed bosch fog lights and rubber lower air dam. H-4 Halogen lights with color matched trim rings.
Bilstein green lifetime struts. Porsche 7 and 8 in wide wheels, polished alloys.
New factory targa top and head liner.
All new rubber on body. New oil lines.
New alternator, new rotor, cap and ss braided plug wires.
Major service and valves adjusted last year. New seals on injectors.
Custom stereo, CD player.
There's more, but you get the idea....pics soon. Man I want this car, who wants my 944?

That is a nice list of work done. Has covered off many of the items that are important (carrera tensioners) and nice to have (new body rubbers, carrera valence). This may be a very good find. I have my fingers crossed for you that the viewing and driving live up to expectations.

Viewing and driving are not the concern... it's paying for it....

They did, I think it was actually a couple years before that (77 maybe?). But still, rust is an issue on SC's. Not as bad as the early 911's and 914's, but it is there. In the trunk, down in the door jams, and around the headlight buckets. I haven't ever seen an SC that was a total basket-case rust-wise (compared to say a 914), but I have seen a few that were bad enough to need some welding and some new metal.

Pete -

Thought you might be interested to know there is a 1983 SC with 115,500 in the Rennlist Classified for $14,800 - seems you are getting a great deal...

Still pondering the decision. It is a great deal. To make it happen I need to sell the '44 and get a few other ducks in a row. Still want the car.

you're laggin man, I'm gonna swoop on it.

Also be sure not to let off the gas too hard if you feel you are entering a turn too hot, in a 944 this is no prob, but do that in a 911 and you will have issues...

Good luck with you car/ decision.

ive driven a couple 911's, its not better or worse, just different. Definitly drive it first. I love the race car feel so i would have no problem doing it...and if you want to re-sell it youll get your money back usually.
