I was just looking at the NHTSA site and they actually have a testing procedure for this. I haven't read it in too great detail yet, but one of the other concerns mentioned was called ramping when the seat folds back in an impact. I guess what happens is that the seat fails and lays down in a rear impact and you slip out of the seat belt and wind up in the back seat unprotected. So no, seats are NOT designed to lay flat in an impact.

Oh, and as was mentioned in another thread, 4,5,6 point harnesses are NOT DOT approved and you can get a ticket for wearing them while driving on public roads.

Is the "D" bracket the bottom mount with the slider and the "C" mount the fixed side mount?

Hacker - The Sparco Speed is a bit better than the Sprint - it has padding in the extra wear areas, and is only 10-15 bucks more.

Analyze what the seat is going to be used for, and order accordingly. If this is going in a track car, with a roll bar and 5 point harness, your best bet is to go with a fixed back. If this is your daily driver, a fixed back may not be appropriate for your application. Additionaly, if your car is not equiped with a roll bar, you should not be using a 4 or 5 point harness for safety reasons.

To answer the question about brackets, the D bracket allows the user to retain the factory seatbelt, as well as utilize a 4 or 5 point harness. The C bracket allows harness use only, but is cheaper. This is a track only bracket.

I have gotten a lot of interest for pricing on TRS, I geuss it would be something to post in this thread.

Group buy price, for a pair of cloth TRS with D brackets and sliders with free shipping is $705.
Price on a pair of leather TRS with D bracket and sliders with free shipping is $1020

Another option for seats is shaving. This will take off a quarter to half an inch from the bottom of the seat, allowing it to sit lower in the car. So If you are exceptionally tall, you may want to consider this. It is $30 per seat, but the seats will not be returnable.

Those are pretty good prices!

If there's anything at my work you guys want to do a group buy on, let me know and I can arrange it. Link in sig.

I was gonna get a seat, but I'm saving for a 951 engine at the moment.

Talk to joseph about 951 drivetrain, hes local so no shipping. That is, of course, if he decides to part his 951.
Of course, you can't have a 951 motor without a track seat!

It doesn't have the "FIA" label, not that I have to have that, but I wonder why.

This looks nice:

But are they both bottom mount or is the C bracket the non-adjustable side mouny?

http://www.corbeau.com/products/bracket/bracket.shtml#

What would be the price diff for the side mount?

I'm not sure what you are asking here? The C bracket is exactly the same as D, except it is missing an adapter on it so that you could attach the point of the factory seat belt on it. Does this answer your question?
Erik, do you need a price quote on those roadsters, or are you still deciding? Anyone else need a price quote today? I'll be making a call in an hour or so.

I think Karen will get really mad at me if I replace seats right now, but I kind of fancy the ultra Suede A4s. Just for giggles what are those going for?

I'm interested too, as I think my dad is...I'll try and talk him into it. Eyal, did I read correctly that you can get us any seat at the group buy? I'm interested in a reclining back seat....and maybe some harnesses.... But of course, I'd have to talk to my father....

Anyway, lemme know.. I showed dad last night, and he's like "wow! hell of a deal!"

Also, how long is this going on for?

Manning, did you receive my PM yesterday?
-Geoff
