Default Fan/blower problem

My fan/blower for the a/c and heat only work on high. Any ideas?

Probably the resistor pack (on the front of the fan motor under the squirrel cage) needs cleaning/replacement. Position 4 (highest speed) works by bypassing the resistor pack, the other three go through it.

Easy of hard to do? Just sent car through car wash could that have done something?

Same problem here. Looks like PO has bypassed it on mine as there's a wire running straight to the fuse box which makes the fan work on high. Got a link/price for a resistor pack ? Never heard of it, don't know what to look for.

Cool

it's under the cover over the blower motor. you don't need to take the wiper arms off.

it's about 4 inches long with a 5 pin connector on one side and what looks like 4 small spools of thread on the other side.

the front of the cover is in a lip that runs from fender to fender. roll it back, take the 2 screws out, unplug the connector.

you might try cleaning it in white vinegar for 15-30 min then rinse off.
may save you $165 from the dealer.

i used to live in levittown.

Sweet, thanks bearone. Any sources for this part ? Or does cleaning the contacts usually solve the problem ?

Cool

i'm not sure yet.

i took the resistor out of the "s" for the 951 and haven't tried the vinegar on the old one yet.

My problem turned out to be a blown fuse. Drove to work with cold air blowing and no heatr. Fuse 29 was blown. Replaced it and heat and fan work. I had just replaced the fuse the day before because the a/c wasn't working. I didn't try it after I replaced it today but i have a feeling it is blowing the fuses for some reason. Don't know why.

I used to live in Bethpage. Had a friend Steve Fisher in Levittown. Lived on Meander. Think he's about 35 or so now. Know him?

I cleaned my resistor pack about a year ago (sanded the contacts a bit) and it's been working fine ever since.

did you use a point file or something else, did you soak it in anything?

Will check again. could have number wrong.

I replaced the fuse and the heat worked however once I tried the a/c the fuse blew again. Why are the fuses blowing?
