Anyone use their 944 in SCCA AutoX?
I'm thinking of joining the SCCA to try my hand at autoX and am curious as to what the SCCA is like as an organization (especially in the Indy area). Any sharing of experiences are greatly aprreciated.

i use to pit crew for a guy that ran in the C-Prepped class of SCCA. Its a pretty tight-knit group in the local areas. as with any organization it has its fair share of folks that turn their nose up to new people, but once you "earn" your place they are as nice as they can be.
rules of racing and ettiquette are VERY strict as they do everything they can to cover their asses in the event of an accident.
overall i enjoyed my time working with my friend and if i ever get this p.o.s. 944 of mine into decent shape i want to take it to a few autox events to see what it can do.

I used to participate in the SCCA with my 951. (now stick to a prepped miata) It was alot of fun and some courses were better than others for the turbo but the organization as a whole is very good from what Ive seen. I havent run in Indy but have done plenty in Lawrenceville, Louisville and Evansville. Some places are smoother ran and get more runs per day in but for fun and experience I would say Yes absolutely join. heck I might get a membership and join ya for when Im not busy or out of town.

the local SCCA in OK is a fairly large group. autocrosses are generally long days and inefficient, with very short courses. the people do tend to congregate in their groups, but i'm not very outgoing either. i personally prefer the pca, but that's just me.

Thought about doing this myself. We have a few empty parking lots around the area, but I'm sure the owners of said property wouldn't be too thrilled. Wonder how much trouble I would be in ?

lmao.. i've thought about doing that too dan.
I know Tifo, Danny, Dale and the other SOW guys auto-x every time there is one. Auto-x is the same thing as SCCA Auto-X correct?
My first auto-x of the season is April 25th. I'll end up taking the 951 but after that I want to have a 944 n/a to race.

I hear the NAs are better for autoX because of the better low end. You won't have to keep the revs up to keep under boost. I'd love to have a 944s/S2/968 to autoX, but will do it with the 951.

Definitely give it a go and see how you like it. See if they'll let you run w/o joining if you want to try it - our local club allows non-members but charges them a premium. If the cost of SCCA membership doesn't worry you, go ahead and join - the magazine isn't too bad either.
You're going to be in SM2, so you'll be up against some pretty stiff competition. Turbo Miatas are demons on the Auto-X course.

I always got quite a few "style points" in the 951. You really have to be ready for corners so the car is semi spooled coming out of tight spots and not just dead. Straightaways are fun because the car seriously gets up and launches towards the next braking zone unlike some other n/a cars. I always did well against my dad and my friends. Beating my friends MR2 on multiple occasions with my 951 on stock susp was good for trash talking...
