Default New carpet time, anybody have advice for me? :)

I was looking at 944online at the carpet kits. $500 and I get ever piece of carpet replaced. My carpet is faded, and not real great looking...

I know it might need some tweaking on install, and I'm not too afraid of that. Has anybody else redid their carpet?

I have a set of black carpet that has 60k on it in great condition if you want it for pretty cheap. I only have the driver and pass sides front and back, not sure about much else. I can check what I have if you are interested, PM me.

DONT DO IT!!!!

I did mine and im praying the seats and mats will cover up the sorriness that ensued... I got the carpet kit from Mid American Motors and it was no where near "molded" or even made for these cars!

I would recommend getting a good set from another car, I wouldnt want anyone to go through what i did !

There is a gentleman here who went to a local shop for the carpets (automotive interiors, not home LOL).

I saw the car, the carpet is thicker and gives a nicer feel to the interior. Stock black colour though, i asked the store what did they do, i was informed that when they removed the old carpet, they just cut the "new" carpet to shape, according to the OEM.

Costed him like $200 or so for the whole carpet set (NOT including the rear hatch mat though), looked damm good.

Find a dismantler and get an excellent quality used set for MUCH cheaper... Don't bother buying new. that's my $0.3.

I think you have to check the piece in the hatch area accommodates the spare tire bulge... a few (if not all) of the aftermarket kits seem to ignore this.

I went through this process about 2 months ago, had a crappy linen interior. I wanted a nice black interior and looked at the replacement sets you can get online. I decided that since I was changing colors I would need the door panels and dashboard as well. I ended up getting a practically mint interior (all carpets, door panels, dashboard, center console all trim) for $350.
I'm with the other guys, keep your eyes open for someone parting out a nice interior and jump on it, its far cheaper and the quality of the factory stuff is superior.
The work isn't that difficult, just time consuming. You will be surprised how much of your interior is held together with tape and glue. Good luck!

What color are you looking for? I have a set of black and a set of linen. The linen, the hatch carpet is not good, but the rest is perfect. The black carepet is in excellent shape.

I have replaced carpet in 2 different restorations and I use World Upholstery and Trim exclusively.

In one I used the lesser expensive cut and bound set, in OEM sliverknit black, and everything came out just fine. Paid $176 from one of their Ebay auctions.

The other I used a molded set in Domestic Loop and it looked better than new also. Paid $350 for this one because I ordered it.

They sell kits for large spare, small spare, molded, cut and bound, domestic and OEM German.

And they are great people to deal with.

Old carpet is old carpet, if you want new looks, get new carpet.

My $.02

I've had great results with World Upholstery as well, a fitted cargo area carpet that was actually fitted! Good products, good people.

Had crappy results with OEM Interiors. Well, actually the results were good (on 928) just their service was crappy.

Nah it was the right kit, it just sucked... It was "close" i.e. semi-formed ridges and humps , but a perfect example is that the front carpet was all one piece!
