radiator fan running until dead battery
Hi, MY one week old car was discharging the battery. I originally was thinking iproblem was with the new radio/amp which the sellers relative had installed. However, I just got my battery back from the service station where it was charged and when I attached the second wire (cold engine) the fan started to run. Any ideas as to the part which is causing this? I spoke with someone who had a similar problem and thought it was a thermo-switch. Vertex on line has a listing for a fan resistor and a relay radiator fan.
Thanks

Most likely the thermoswitch. Disconnect one of the leads and see if they shut off. If they don't, it's the realy or some other issue.
The switch defualts closed to run the fans so it won't overheat. Pretty easy install and somewhat cheap.

If it's the switch, leave it disconnected and the AC switch will turn the fan on low until you can get it fixed

probably the thermofan switch, look for it on the driver side, two wires going into it. for now just unplug the batt when you park the car, and it will be fine, I'll find the detailed test procedure when I get a chance....
EDIT: you all beat me to it!

Thanks,
I have been disconnecting the battery. Car is going in for an alignment this week. Being new to the car are these settings at book, or is there a mid point or track setting for an "89". In addition I am dropping the fluids and getting all fresh tune-up parts. I have a Hayes manual coming, but heard they are very limited. Any tune up pointers I should be aware of? Thanks.

If your alignment guy knows what he is doing on a 944 he will ask you what you want done on the settings. I dropped the cross member for motor mounts, replaced the castor blocks with upgraded 968, poped off the tie rods to replace the rubber boots. Resulting in my front end being pretty messed up after all of that. He re-centered the front and aligned to agressive street. I think it was -1 1/2 o neg and 1/8 toe.
