Default Dash lighting

Am I correct in the fact that the early 944s, mine is an 83, have replaceable bulbs in the dash and that re-silvering of bulb-holders is for the 85 1/2 and up?
What type of bulb is used?
Thanks,
Mike

You're correct. I believe the bulb type is 94. You can get led replacements from www.superbrightleds.com. Make sure to buy the lights WITH the bases - they are one unit, you can't pull the actual bulb out without breaking the solder.

I don't believe the replacements work very well at all.
I think somebody tried these in the past, and was very disappointed with them.

You are correct though, the light tunnels are only on the late dashes.

I have replacements, worked great, really brightened the dash. I have no trouble with seeing the guages at night but maybe it's just me.
