Default Sunroof Help

Haven't been here much as the car's been running quite well (knock on wood). Took it out of storage this past weekend and my sunroof isn't working the way it should.

The roof hs never worked perfectly since I have owned the car (10 + years) It would go up and down but would not automatically stop when it should. Never was a big deal as I just let go of the switch when I wanted it to stop. If I didn't let go of the switch when the arms reached their full extension, on the way up the roof would make a clicking noise like the gears were grinding against that rod that that runs the gears. When going down, the arms would never stop and they would go all the way down unless I let go of the switch.

Now, I just got the car out of storage and the roof will not go down (i store it with the roof slightly open). It will go up, and when the switch is pressed to get the roof to go down, it does for a spit second and then stops. It is almost like the motor runs out of juice or that the battery is too weak to turn the motor which I know isn't the case cause the roof went up with no problems.

I would sure appreciate any guidance provided.

Thanks -

Mark

I had this problem, turned out to be the two gears that engage with the lifting arms. They are easy to replace. Just be patient and take your time and your roof should be good as new.

Default Question

I've replace those gears a couple of times over the past 10 years. This doesn't appear to be a gear problem as the sunroof will go up, it just won't go back down. I will look at it more tonight and rule out this possibility.

Did you have the same problems where the roof would go up and not down or did your roof not go in any direction?

Thanks -

Mark

When my last gears stripped it would go up but not down. It happened because the gear only stripped on about 1/4 to 1/3 of the gear so it would lift the roof until it got to the stripped portion and stop. I could push the roof down and it would pick it back up until I finally did the rest of the teeth in by pushing down on the roof.
