One more thing. The best feeling is walking back to your car in a parking lot and have some people walking around it and questioning what it is. Then I slowly walk up to my car, unlock it, wink at them and get in it.....well not really but I have thought of doing that. I will one day.

Actually I let my Dad drive it once in a while, and my gf drove it once!
She grew up on a stickshift so I was comforted somewhat.
She really got the hang of it! She loved it! She said the steering was so tight, it was like driving a gokart....
I'll take that as a compliment!

Hehe Derek...I know what you mean.
But you DO realize that when you wink at them and smile you'll probably whack your head on the door jamb as you get in or something...

Yeah, I find it interesting to see what other people think after they drive my car. Its also fun to have them talking about it for a week.

Plus, if the car can survive how I beat on it, it can survive anyone. Especially those FWD guys who don't know to handle a RWD car and push it to its limit.

No, not unless you can move the powercurve to the upper RPM range. To do this you will need more aftermarket parts.

Family:
"You got a what...?" My parents wondered who was there when I pulled into their driveway over Christmas.

Friends:
"Fix the a/c already!" - guy with a Mazda 6
other things like cool car, "what year is it - a '96?"

Coworkers (they all drive either trucks or a Tahoe):
Still don't believe that it cost me $500 but I don't think many of them understand the '5 bent valves when I got it' part. These days they're getting jealous of the mileage it gets. They've all been running around in more practical cars for a long time now.

What my friends think of my car is of little interest to me, wether they like it or don't like it.
It's just not their business.

In answer to the original question, they actually don't have much opinion about it.

Hey that just happened to me a couple of weeks ago!

I had to send out my fuel injectors for a rebuild so my car was put away for a week. I rented a Ford Taurus and got used to the higher roofline. So the first day back into my car I almost gave myself a concussion getting into the vehicle. Of course it was right outside of a store so a good sized crowd probably got to see my knees weaken as I stepped into my vehicle.

Default What Do My Friends Think?

First they all tell me I am crazy to be pumping money and time into an ancient German relic. These are people who own new Impreza WRXs, S2000s, and 350Zs. I tell them this "ancient Teutonic relic"(1986 951) is still faster than 80% of new production performance cars made today. Dollar for dollar- there is no justification for the thrill quotient this car can still provide. The 951 even in stock form- packs a punch, and gives the owner more bang-zoom for the buck. Every car I beat- the owners ask, "whats IN there, a V8?" Their eyes bug-out when they see the big four-banger with the "hidden" turbo...its too funny!

Being new to ownership (10 days) who cares what they think! It's a Porsche.
These cars are RARE here, very rare. Most owners are weekend only drivers, mine is now my main transport. My other half hates it, my adult kids love it.
I have spent this week going around to peoples houses and showing off because I have a Porsche.
I had to physically remove a workmate from behind the wheel after I let him have a drive. He wanted to keep it! LOL
I dont care how fast it goes, there are too many radars and speed cameras in this area to make speeding worthwhile. I just love the feel of having quality engineering underneath me.
Sure beats the hell of of driving my '95 Hyundai exel!!!
