Default Late Door Handles, Early car?

Is it a direct swap? What all is involved? Do 968 handles fit early cars? Thanks

It is a direct swap although the lock tumblers are a different size I think. They can be re-keyed to fit. My early 85 has the later solid handles with "Porsche" on the them. Since late handles do fit I'm pretty sure 968 handles fit as well.

So if im buying a set of late handles I should make sure the tumblers and a copy of the key come with? And then re-key them for what, my current key? Sorry, just a little lost...

Sorry, I'll find out for sure if no one else replies as soon as I can. The handle is a direct swap and should be self-explanitory once you have the old one off. My brother surprised me by putting these on my car while I was gone so I don't know exactly what was involved, I'll ask him. From what I understand the lock cylinder will stick out a bunch if put into a late handle so you need to use the cylinders from the late handle. This creates a problem because you will have to use the key from the late door handles in the doors, and the key from the car for the ignition. You can rekey the lock cylinder by removing it from the handle. There are a series of metal plates that slide into the cylinder that can be removed, moved, etc. I'm unclear as to whether you take the plates out of the early cylinder and put them in the late one in order, or whether you have to monkey around with the plates in the late one. I am much happier with the late handles as they do not have that annoying trip piece that breaks, and they do not seem to have the problem the early handles do of becoming very difficult to open.

ok, swap the pins of the early cyl to the late in order so your old key will work, everything else should be the same. Good luck.
