Default resale value question...944S

Hey guys...

I am considering selling my car as my budget is in a state of transition...meaning I can't afford to maintain her without suffering for it...so I thought I should get a realistic idea of how much she is worth...

thanks in advacne...this is really helpful...

no pics unfortunately...

1987 944 S
Stone Grey with 76k miles
new front suspension
timing belt 3k ago
new engine mounts
water pump
new tires
new brakes front and back, rotors and all
valve cover gasket kit
clutch was done by original owner at 20k, same one now seems good

Paint has some issues, nothing horrible
sun roof motor is shot, going top convert to manual at some point
all electrical works
A/C doesn't work although it did for previous owner

I have changed the oil religiously and kept her garaged although previous owner left her out side for a few years and the dash is cracked
Driver's seat leather is starting to rip

Interior in general could be better, although in my opinion not a big fix.

She runs great...really great...

What's the limit you would spend...?

Because of the recent maintenance, low mileage, and rarity, I'd say something around 5k.

We'd need pictures to give a more accurate estimate. Little things can really add or subtract your car's value.

Do the S cars command a premium over a standard NA? I've always considered them less desirable, simply because performance is much the same as a standard NA, but sourcing parts is both more difficult and more expensive.

I just sold my Stone Grey Metallic 944S last week:

104,000 miles
No sunroof
Belts & water pump done at 80,000
Clutch done at 85,000
Brakes done at 94,000
New radiator & all coolant hoses done at 94,000
Koni Yellows all around
Light damage to the passenger side rear quarter panel and driver side by the headlight (estimated repair cost was $800.00)
Paint was about a 7/10
Interior was an 8 - 8.5 out of 10. Very clean, 2 1-inch dash cracks, good leather, no rips, little wear
New muffler (failed inspection)
A/C needed recharged
very small oil leak (from tube of dipstick)

All around good car, runs great, could use some cosmetic work. US Spec sold in Germany with extra set of Phone Dials (fair condition) & misc parts for $3500.00

I miss the car already and have second thoughts, but its too late to change my mind. I guess i have to save a few bucks for a 968!!!

Well, 968s are rare and parts are hard to find/expensive, but nice ones often command a higher price than much newer Boxsters. From what I've seen, the S cars do command a premium. Especially ones with low miles and supposedly good condition.

hey thanks for the input...$5000 is what i expected...although I was hoping for more like $8000...I think I will keep her...5k is not worth it to me....i could pay off some debt for all of the work I've done but wouldn't be able to buy anything else...

I am hoping that I don't need any more serious work done...

My mechanic told me the S stands for $$..meaning the parts are more expensive...although I havent' had any trouble finding them...16 Valve design is probably more expensive to rebuild and all ....so I imagine that people would rather race the 8 valves....but she really does purr with a full open throttle...I wish I could afford an S2....

thanks again...

Has your cam chain tensioner been replaced? You are still under 100k miles but with almost 20 years I would be worried about that $3 plastic part coming apart and causing $3k in damage.

You would be very lucky to get $5k. I am comitted to my S with 220k miles and many times my purchase price. No one would buy it with those miles and yet it is in great shape.

There was an S2 on ebay yesterday that went for $5.4. I almost went for it. I don't think the seller knew what they were doing as long as everything they said was true.

If you are getting 8K offers on your S, Is a turbo worth 18K and a 968 worth 28k? In cheese packer town?
