Default Hirschmann Antenna Question

I got a new manual antenna to replace the broken one in my car, and I'm not sure how to raise it and what the little key is for. The key fits into the slot on top of the antenna but what is it good for? I can raise the antenna by unscrewing the bottom part, but that won't be much of an option once it's on the car. Do you have to make sure not to lower it all the way or else it won't come back up without unscrewing the top again? I've got to be missing something here...

I think it is to lock it down so that people can't raise and bend it, kinda a safety feature.

When it's installed, how do you keep it from going all the way down without it going down so far you can't grab the tip?

It's supposed to go all the way down, flush with the base.

If you look closely at the "key" the blade is at an angle, so that you can pull the antenna tip back out of the base by applying the key in a leverlike fashion.

Once the tip is out, you just pull the whole antenna back up with your hand.
