Hey Guys. Just bought my first Porsche. Just wanted to say howdy!
Hi all. Just bought a '86 944 n/a. I am totally in love with this car. Just like I'm sure most folks here have, I have dreamt of owning a porsche since before I could drive. Well, I may be a poor college student right now, but I decided to sell my truck and take the plunge.
My 944 is in pretty great shape, although I wish I had found this place before I bought it so that I would have known the right questions to ask. For example: I have no idea when the timing belt was last changed. Now, that and the water pump are on the top of my list of repairs.
I do have a question though: Is it pronounced "Porsh" or "Por-sha"? That's always bugged me.
Also, do dash caps look ok? I've never seen one on a car, but if they look acceptable, I could really use one as a temporary fix for my new baby. That, and the driver's seat wear are the only blemishes that really bug me.
Here are a couple of pics of it. These are the ones from the seller. I have been too busy driving it to take pictures of my own!
I look forward to spending lots of time here at Rennlist. I hope to become a member soon!

Stop driving NOW!! Figure out the belts or else you might be spending a lot of quality time with your car and no I don't mean driving it. That being said welcome to the POR SCHA addiction and get ready to watch your wallet get very empty.

Is there a way to check the wear on my belts without taking apart the car? I wish I had the cash to just replace them right now, but it's just not in the books. I do have the receipt that this car was bought by the previous owner two years ago (and 8,000 miles) from a Porsche dealership. The PO also transferred the remaining 3 years of a 5 year warranty to me. I'm assuming this means that a) The dealer checked the belts before they sold him a car with a warranty and b) Even if the belt snaps, I should be covered as long as I follow the warranty. Am I right in my assumptions? I will be calling the dealer next week though, just to clarify.
Also, thanks for admiring the wheels. The PO told me that they were 16"ers from a 911 that were ordered as a factory option. Could this be true? Any ideas what the best tire would be for this car? I do need to replace them soon.
Thanks for the warm (and fast!) welcomes. I can tell that this will be a great place to be.

I don't know the color name. It's very gold looking in person. The pictures dull it down a bit. I paid $3500 for it. Well, $3800 if you account for the 14 hrs of driving and gas to get it

technicolor,
Welcome! Add your city/state and model/year to your account info, so people know when you post.
Personally, I would not recommend a dash cap unless the cracks are bad. The adhesive you use to install the dash cap will essentially ruin the dash underneath. Once you put a cap on, you are committed for good.

A warrenty? What's that?
It is P-o-r-s-c-h-a to owner and P-o-r-s-c-h to envious non-owners. Welcome to rennlist, and to 944 ownership. Get those belts changed and you should be a proud owner for years to come.
