what's it worth

Absolutely nothing so you should immediately pay to have it shipped to me and then thank me for taking that horrible worthless piece of junk off your hands
But seriously it's not worth very much at all, depending on why it's not running, options, and the condition of the body and interior I would say anywhere from <$1000 to $2000 ish.

It all depends. A 1986 Porsche is my favorite year (guess what year I was born), and a turbo in good condition is typically worth double that of a similiar normally aspirated. In a non-running condition I have seen 944 NA's sell for no more than 1k, and as a turbo with pretty high mileage you wont get much more.
Rennlist is a great resource though, with many very knowledgable members so I would recomment you try to get the car running before selling. If you can get it running, it should be at least worth 5k IMO.
Good luck with it.

i'd be the buyer!
turbo needs to be reinstalled and according to the seller, it will start up and run. he had plans to swap turbos from another 944, but lost time/interest. downpipe from turbo to exhaust was hacksawed off, and turbo is out of the car. assuming the turbo needs a rebuild and downpipe needs to be welded, what is this thing worth?

Personally, I'd get a quote from a mechanic to do the necessary work RIGHT - new and rebuilt parts. That will probably tell you what you need to know, and if you want to do the work yourself, no reason to tell the seller that.

Put it this way...you can get a pretty nice 86 951 with that many miles for 5-6k.
Mechanically you'll need a bare minimum of $1000 (just initially). Paint and body work...2k for an ok job. Then take more money off since you're doing all the work.
If theres something about it that really stands out...good dash, nice seats, etc, then you can possibly go for ~ $2500.
