Default Has changing ICV solved your idle problems?

Hi!

My mechanic told me that it is very uncommon that the Idle control valve fails.
I think mine is not working. Have anyone solved there idle problem with changing the ICV?

Thanks
Dave

You need to check the ICV resistance values; 20 ohms from the center pin
to each outer pin. Then check to see that the idle switch is closing, pin 2
of the DME unit to pin 5 of the DME unit using an ohmmeter.

Can you describe the problem you are having?? Is it just idle fluctuation??? Does it happen all the time? Only at start up??

My S2 used to have a fluctuating idle when started but would go away upon driving. I ended up removing the ISV, cleaning it out, and replace. The car idles solidly now, when it gets driven.

Cheers

Mine was having sticking problems which was partly wrecking my idle. (The other problem was a huge vacuum leak). I've since removed it as the car doesnt see much time in the winter and I dont use the AC (soon to be deleted).

I hope mine has the sticking problem. My idle is bad during the first 10 sec after the car has been standing still for a day or two.
If I start the car and the idle jumps up and down. After 10 sec I can shut it down. Starting it 2 hours later without problem. Its just the initial start after a long standstill.

What do you think? I have the new ICV in a box, just waiting for the gaskets!

Well the removal and cleaning of the one you have is free if you do your own work, so you have nothing to loose. If that is not a fix, then you have some experience to make the installation of your new ISV go even faster.

Good luck

I recently cleaned my throttle valve & idle increased 200rpm. My ISVchecks out OK with a multi meter but doesn't seem to make any difference when i strt the car with it disconnected.
I was told that this is how you set the idle-- disconnect ISV adjust idle to 800+/-50rpm with throttle air valve then reconnect ISV. Can any one confirm (sorry about the partial hi-jack)

To adjust the idle, just turn the idle screw (air bypass). No need to disconnect anything.
