Where are you going to drive it fast? At a track or on the street? If you race at a track you better bring money. If you are racing on the street better bring your soul. At seventeen you don't know how to drive fast and safe, if that can be done. I suggest keeping the NA through college learning how to drive properly and safely and then decide how fast you want to go. Your performance at college is more important than spending time on an engine swap. There are plenty of people here who drive NAs and are perfectly happy with the performance. If your NA is running properly it should be fine for now. Advice from an old guy.

i would like to chime in and say that my n/a is plenty fast for me. it being a 2.7 and all

the only reason i am doing the 951 conversion is because a REALLY cheap opportunity presented itself in acquiring the engine, computers, and tranny. i will not be swapping anytime soon. rebuilding this engine and modifying it will most likely take a LONG time. probably one to two years with me saving up money while i'm in college and getting free time to perform the work.

I agree 100%, except I hang out more with modified 928's. A bit over $7k puts you in a special group of 928 owners:

I have been able to keep up with main. and mod the car once and a while. I also work 45 hours a week and go to high school. All my friends say I have no life. I guess whatever floats your boat.

If i was going to drop money on a 944, i personally wouldnt swap the engine. 7,000 will get you supercharged above 300hp. A Turbo car can be make big HP numbers on similar prices as well. An S2 can be pushed above 500 with 15 - 20,000. Again, not cheap...but DAMN will they move!

Putting an LS1 engine or similar is great and dandy...but then you can't say you only have 4 cylinders?

I have an N/A. You can see by my age I'm in this group of 944 owners that can't afford to do anything but put gas in it, so I'm just thankful that I have this car to begin with! I have the time of my life every morning on my way to school, and on my way home, because I know I'm driving my favorite car under $20k, it's sporty as they come, and it just gets my juices flowin. It's not fast but it suuure floats my boat... even when something breaks and I spend my savings on reviving it. I drive like normal but it puts a smile on my face at any speed, in any situation.

Start driving it more, fix it up, and you'll forget the desire to go faster. Then, one day, you'll find a nice twisty road...

lol, nice comment FRporscheman, and by ur name, arash, i can tell that ur persian, lol. i am also, and yea i love my car, im just into street racing. My bro has a 70 mustang boss 302, which he is making it TTed, and ever since i was small i loved cars, and even went to tracks and stuff, so i am a bit experienced with driving. but in general, i just hope that it would at least be like a 13.0 or 12.5 second car, without me having to put more than 5 grand into it. And i live in DC area, and we got one of the best street racing scenes in the country, and some of the fastest cars that anyone will ever see, so i guess that its just me.

You'll have your whole life to go fast and waste money. You're going to college in a year - I'd be more concerned with that.

As said above, a 944 is a terrible car if your main concern is speed. Look elsewhere.

You won't hurt the balance with an LS1, barely make a difference with an LT1....

You will trash the rest of an N/A's drivetrain and you won't do it for $5000
