Default Does Your Rear End Moan?

Sorry, I couldn't resist....

While cruising in fifth gear with no load on the trans there is a constant pitch, low volume "moan" from the gears. My 356 has a similar sound from the transaxle. Is this a Porsche signature? Do all 944s have a certain amount of transaxle noise, or are they supposed to be quiet like modern cars?

My rear Torque tube whines- does that count? (Bad bearing, but still driveable. Just annoying..)

I don't think anyone's ever accused 944 Tranny's of being quiet.... Mine has had a whine bad enough that it sounds like I have straight cut gears for three years now. Talked to my wrench about it today -he said not to worry about it. Until it grenades, of course. lol

I wouldn't worry.

yeah, people always tell me it sounds like the car is breaking down or something, no sound deadening material definately makes the tranny howl even more....
of course, thats about the time I throw it sideways....
Nothing to worry about, maybe change your fluid...

Mine got cured by having the gear box oil changed to a high grade. Made it much quieter

"Does Your Rear End Moan?"

You better edit that title. Some poeple may be offended by the implied connotations (intended or otherwise) of your words...

I'd be glad to change the title if you agree to change your avatar.... :~)
