Default Selling my baby for my baby

Hey guys. Been awhile since I’ve been around here but with a baby I’ve been pretty crazy. She’s almost a year old now! With another person to look after in the house I think I have to sell the 944 Turbo and get something a little more sensible for the time being. This is killing me though. So, for those of you who are interested or know someone who is, here is the car:

1988 944 Turbo. This is a truly special and perfect car. It has been brought up to “S” specifications by the previous owner and done PERFECTLY. Chris Cervelli at Technodyne inspected this car and indicated that all the work was done the way it should be and at great expense. This work includes M030 suspension, Konis, Sway bars, braided brake lines, “S” brakes, etc. Factory “S” wheels with painted center caps. The only thing NOT upgraded was the turbo. Aesthetically this car is nearly perfect. Interior is flawless. One of the mechanics at Stuttgart Southwest commented that this car reminds him of his first drive in a 944 Turbo back in the eighties…that it is tighter than anything else they work on. The car currently has 47,000 miles. This car has always been garaged and the previous owner (a doctor in Ohio) indicated the car was never even rained on when he owned it.

I have all records. The car has been meticulously maintained. Here is some very recent work done.

Currently at 47,180 miles:

34,780 miles- Replaced clutch assembly, replaced clutch disc, plate and
release bearing.

35,889 miles- Resealed and updated oil thermostat housing and resealed
auxiliary oil coolant housing.

Circa 40,000 miles- Set of Dunlop SP Sport 8000’s.

40,880 miles- Install front and rear brake pads and check complete system.

45,564 miles- Replaced all belts (Timing belt) Removed all related items
and installed new water pump, replaced all idlers and tensioners,
replaced hoses, Tune up service, install new spark plugs, fuel filter and
air filter. Checked adjusted all fluid levels. Complete oil and filter
service. Install new power steering hose and updated fitting.

46,800 miles- Motor mounts replaced and rattling heat shield repaired.

Front suspension now has about 11000 miles on it, as it was nearly brand
new when I purchased the car. Seals have been checked and appear fine.

This car is truly in nearly perfect shape. You can see a couple of pictures in my signature or email me for more.

As I said, it kills me to let this 944 Turbo go but I have baby to look after.

I am looking for a serious buyer and a Porsche enthusiast. I’m looking to get $15,000 for the car. Believe me, it’s worth it!

Email me at rotorobot@hotmail.com or message me here at Rennlist.

I had my 1986 944 when my wife got pregnant. At various times I considered selling the car. I kept the car, and I am very glad that I did.

You should keep the car!

What does your wife drive? Why do you think having a baby means you have to sell the car?

I've got a 1 year old and a 944S2, keep the car and get a nice daily driver like an '89 Jetta for $3k. You'd spend close to the $3k anyway on taxes if you sell yours and buy another similarly priced. If the 951 is your primary driver now, your insurance would probably stay the same having something like a jetta as your primarly car and the 951 as a weekend car. Also, if you have more kids, do you think it will be easy to justify buying another porsche if you want one?, Keep it!!!! There's lot's of fun/reliable cars for cheap.

I think thats a fair price. Unmolested unabused examples are few and far between. One 1/4" dash crack is pretty much a $800-1000 liability. I could go on and on. Some road rash on the rims. Bam. Another $1000. You can have a car that looks mint from 5ft away that you could dump $5000 into easily to fix the small but expensive problem areas. Perfection costs money!

UDPride...thanks for the support. It really is a beautiful car and I change my mind about selling it everytime I sit down and smell the oil and leather. I know many folks here have kids and Porsches and I could too but my goal is a 993 and I can get there faster by doing things this way. This is my third Porsche (a 1987 951 and a 1985 928S came before) and I will have a fourth. For the record this is the only kid we're having! My wife said no more!

To be honest, I won't be too broken up if my 951 doesn't sell...

I second Mark, I sold my 911T when we had our first, regretted it ever since. I had myself convinced that part of being a parent was owning a "family" car, so I purchased a '99 A4. Since we bought the A4, I can count the number of times the car seat has been in it on one hand, out of convenience we just take my wife's 4Runner, it's roomier anyway. The moral of the story, buy the wife a family car, keep the 951, exceptional examples don't come along every day. Within a few weeks it looks like I'll have a '87 951, and the A4 is headed to Autotrader, so save yourself the trouble, DON'T DO IT!

That car is your escape at times. I know mine is, even though the weather says no. But if you let it go the other things in life can get you and push that "next Porsche " further back.If your not ready to buy the new one don't sell the old one I say Just my .02

Default The P-cell virus Type 1

Once you go Porsche you can never go back.
It infects you and when you are away you will have withdrawal.

I have tried to kick the habit....couldn't do it. Lasted 6 months.

Kind of like when you don't eat for a while and then you go overboard the next meal.

The worst version of this virus is the P-cell Virus type 951
It contains a boost complication that forces you to upgrade until you explode!

Now that you have a baby, keep the 951. You can finally use the backseat for more than groceries.

If you sell it, you won't be able to take a picture like this.

I told people I am now ready to part with the 68 Firebird I've owned since 1976. Kids do that to you.

and even after you explode, it forces you to spend gobs and gobs of money to find a cure so you're OK, then it starts all over again...
