Default Changing 944 to 951 Calipers Possible ???

Is it possible to change my stock 87 944 brake Calipers to ones off a 951 ? What other parts would need to be changed ?

If you do a search, youll find that you need a great deal of parts: 951 hubs, rotors, calipers, pads, spindles, and some misc. hardware.

I think the hubs are the same, but turbo spindles are definitely needed.

Not sure if you can do it with standard Turbo brakes, But I have Big Reds on stock NA spindles/hubs, etc. using some adapter brackets and a little fab time to build the correct spacers to match the calipers to your rotors. The same process works (as I understand it) for M030 brakes as well.

Kokeln and some others out there make the brackets, but there's a lot of fussing and fiddling with a lathe or grinder to buld the spacers (basically really thick washers) to get the caliper to sit right on the rotor.

You'll also need the turbo rotors, or in the case of the big reds, I have 928 GTS rotors on the car. Stopping power is UNBELIEVABLE on the track - I can carry my braking 100-200 feet further than your typical NA or even Turbo S's which equals lots and lots of passes at the end of the straights

For what it's worth, when I did this a year ago or so, new Big Red calipers were actually a couple of bucks cheaper then new M030's - ?!?

I'm running a 968 motor, so I needed the extra brakes

complete listing of parts you will need:

1. 87 or 88 non S 951 front pair of hubs and spindles complete with bearings
2. Front and rear pair of non S 951 Calipers and Rotors along with the factory bolts to mount the calipers
3. 951 Bias valve or upgraded bias valve (the bias valve is not necessary but a definite improvement)
4. Brake Lines for a 951

edit: oh yes and don't forget the pads

You will also need a bias valve.. at least I think that is what they call it. I am picking up a turbo suspension and brakes for my 924s this weekend.

a bias valve is not necessary but it is nice to have

and in my opinion once you have the turbo brakes see how you like it. FYI Big reds will not work with 16 in. wheels. IF you feel it necessary to have Big Reds, all you will need to buy is the kit and not have any custom mounts or anything because you will have already had the turbo brakes on there - what the Big Red system was made to upgrade in the first place

Good point on the 17's with the big reds. The M030's will work with 16's

The bias valve can be had from 944 Ecology or SC Part Works or similar for cheap.

nope the bias valves are still separate. although the valve screws right into the master cylinder, then the rear brake line goes from the valve to the rear brakes

No differences between an 87 n/a and 87 Turbo hub (except for ABS optioned cars), wheel bearings, and brake lines. All the same parts.

Correct you just need front spindles, rotors, brakes, pads, and 16inch or+ wheels.
