Question 944 Fuel Rail

Hi

On my 1987 944 there are two units that I would like to understand the function of. They are situated next to the fuel rail and seem to have a small pipe on one side with a high pressure fuel pipe on the other. They are marked BOSCH.

The reason I want to know is that when the engine is switched off, the front one seeps a little petrol. This seems to happen only when the engine is switched off, not wen running.

Does anyone know of a solution?

Thanks

Mike

The one on the front of the engine is the fuel pressure damper, the one on the rear is the fuel pressure regulator.

If the FPD is leaking, replace it, it's gone bad

Thanks for that. Is it easy to replace? I am ok with spanners but definately not PORSCHE trained!!
Also, I think it may be the pipe itself that leaks. What is involved in replacing that?

Thanks

Simple tools to replace the FPD: Click Here

If it is the pipe that leaks, then don't drive the car at all!!! risk of fire!

But it could be the small pipe that runs on the fuel rail, still risk of fire.......double check

If you have any fuel leak, stop driving your car. You will probably have to replace a a fuel hose or two as well, there have been many cases here of cars being destroyed.

I replaced my fuel pressur reulator on the weekend and ended up having to take the entire fuel rail out of the car (no big deal but a PIA) and put it in a vice in order to get the retaining nut off the bottom of the FPR, even then I needed to use a length of pipe on the socket bar.
The PO or mech that installed it must have thought it was holding the whole car together!!
