Default Carpet Re-color

I want to re-color the carpet in my Platinum '83 944. The original color was brown (don't know the proper Porsche name) but has sunfaded terribly. I do not want to remove and replace. I would be happy with a universal dark brown color that I apply myself, either spray or dab on.

Any ideas, sources, thoughts? Thanks!

I just painted the door panel carpet from tan to black on the '84. Used some of that spray vinyl & carpet stuff. Came out well, only slightly stiffer than whan I started, looks like it came black though. Can't tell you anything about durability yet though.

SEM products Color Coat. It is a dye suitable for carpet, vinyl and leather. Look for it in autobody supply stores. It comes in a spray can.

That stuff works awesome on any vinyl or plastic or whatever. Just make sure you clean whatever ArmorAll you used in the past off.

SEM is not really a dye. Its a flexible paint. Will work on carpet in non-wear areas. Light coats.

What about an actual dye? I would like some chance of this lasting for a while, otherwise I'll live with new floor mats and faded carpets.

Yeah, dye probably wasn't accurate. It is lacquer based I think. I've used in on a few things, with great results. I freshened up my whole 914 interior with it. I touched up my 944 seats with it. I painted a big rubber mat in my IHC Scout II with it. I've never tried carpet. At least if I did, it was on a scrap and I did it as a test.

SEM works fine on carpet, just not on wear areas. There is no way to dye carpet effectively. you have to buy new carpet or paint it.
