Default CA Central Coast BBQ on 2/20/05

Anybody doing anything over the long weekend? Looks like rain on Sunday, but Friday and Monday look like only a 30% chance. I really don't want to run in the rain, but if it's decent, anyone doing anything?

I really hated to hear about the mishap. I'm sure it will be a while before you can look back at it and laugh, if ever. Anyhow, (sure you've heard it a million times) I'm glad you came out w/o injury.

The track record for recent Bay Area runs has me just a bit superstitious...between the Killer Rock and the 968 incident...what's next "Five Porsches lost at Devils Slide during Rainstorm"

Im in for a drive.

Jonathan,

I took the "scary" road that goes thru big basin park on my way home from your place a few weeks ago. I wouldn't charaterize it as scary, but it definately makes you work the wheel. Much lower speed turns than skyline, so less impending doom if you make a mistake. But since the turns are tighter, you are much closer to the threshold of adhesion. Probably feels scarier if you're not comfortable driving your car at the limit.

What was the 968 incident?

That "scary" road = 236? If so, that road is scary not because of how extreme the turns are, but because some of the turns are NOT wide enough for 2 cars to pass each other. And to make matters worse, they are blind turns..

Chris- You missed out on me totalling my 968 cab last weekend (2/6/04). Here's a link:

You also missed the 968 get together we had at my place in SF the weekend before that!! Search 968.net and i'm sure you'll find all the pics.

Wow, that is truly a shame - very good that you weren't hurt though ! By the looks of the car, you were lucky. What are your plans for the 968 ?

Steve -

I told Chris about the run we made a few weeks ago on Hwy 9. I think he drove that back.

Yes, it was scary for me b/c I was not familiar with my car, I had the rear spacers on causing me to worry about shredding a tire, plus, I had a very hanky suspension. Now that I have the Koni Yellows on and am putting on the ball joints as well as the Weltmeister front A-Arm bushings this week, I should be fine. Plus, one of these days Serge and I will hook up and put those pesky sway bars on.

ouch! glad your ok. your health is more important than any car...

I drove all of 236 and it is narrow, but there is definately room for two cars to pass as long as you hold to your lane. That's why you have to be comfortable with your car at threshold since you may have go into the brakes abruptly while negotiating a blind turn. No margin for error.

I just red the description of the mishap with the 968. I had the same experience once on skyline in a RX-7. South of Alices's there are a pair of roughly 90 turns (Skyline's own 'corkscrew') and I did exactly what's described (got a bit wide in the corner) and looped across oncoming traffic. Luckily we didn't roll as it would have been down quite a hill, but did flatten one tire on impact and loosened another to the point where it was about half flat. Not pretty...

My condolensces. If you do part it, I'd love some stock 968 springs assuming your cab springs fit my coupe.

Good Luck,

Phil

Steve, God iI guess I totally missed your post on this one. Sorry to hear that happened to you. After the accident Dmitry, Ben and Jim went through we have been very hesitant on going on these drives. I'll go to the gatherings but probably not the drive. Jim and I went on a drive last weekend and when we reached the winding roads on 152 west towards Highway 1 from Gilroy, It brought back memories of the accident and we eneded up turning around.

BTW, is the car totalled?

How about we just BBQ?
Dmitry, This is a great idea. We should just get together and BBQ. I'm up for that.

Methinks we all need to spend a day at the track...

Danno has offered to hook us up with a shared track day with another org. Anyone up for a track day?
