Default Wipers dont work

They work every once in a while, but lately they dont work a lot more than they work.

I gave the relay a couple taps/R&R a while ago when they weren't working, no effect.

Any standard problem areas with the wipers?

thanks,
Adrial

fuse/relay dirty. take them out and put them back in. do a continuity check on the fuse, not sure if you can do it on the relay.

Is it the motor or is the motor turning, wipers not? I'm literally going through this right now (just waiting for a part to come in)

Motor does not sound like its turning...

Hopefully its not something serious like replacing the motor. I was hoping for some minor issue...

If you had to replace the motor, and you have good reasoning and logic skillz, you may look into finding a non porsche motor and fabricating it into place. personally, I dont really like putting in certian designs that are twenty years old. they may work, but its been done better since then and far cheaper. :/ just a thought

Replacing the motor is not serious man, Idon't think the whole carrier has to come out to do the job either, just the linkage bolt and 3 bolts that hold it in. I should have a good motor if you need it, don't rig nothing up. PM me if you need one

Ditto. It would be worse if it was the switch, since it comes as an assembly including the turn signal and cruise ($$$). R&R on the motor is no big deal.

The wiper motor IS a PITA! I replaced the entire rack because I couldnt get the old motor off the old rack. Replacing the rack is a PITA. You have to remove the HVAC fan and bottom vent, and move em out of the way to get the rack to clear the windshield. Once you do that, it's an easy replacement. (Thanks to George (Emmily's Granny) for providing the replacement assembly!!)

PS-- Before my wiper motor died, it would work sometimes, then not, until finally it quit altogether.

Be careful! When I had wiper problems, the wipers weren't moving, but the motor was turning - buring itself up! Even after I switch the wiper controls to the off position.

Happened on the way to work - by the time I got in, I smelled that eletrical burning smell that you NEVER want to smell. The motor was very hot to the touch, but fortunately, I keep the cowl area free of dried leaves - otherwise, I may have had a fire.

Keep an eye on it Adrial - check to make sure it isn't running - you can't hear the wiper motor that easily - carefully feel it to make sure it's not hot.

Good luck,
-Z-man.

Haven't looked at it on the 951, but on the n/a it's very simple. I wouldn't swap motors. These are intended to have a specific amount of current draw and the motors themselves are suprisingly light for the amount of torque they produce.

I'm 99% sure its the motor...as the harness is getting power but there's no wiping of the windshield going on.

I sent you a PM nine-44

How does that cowel cover come off? I removed the seal and lifted up the side of it towards the front of the car...but I am not sure how the other side comes off. It seems it is either glued on (I hope not!) or I just need to slide it up off a lip that its sitting on? It's a flimsy piece of plastic so I dont want to damage it.

thanks for the help
