Default Once again, I ask for you help (Part 2)

Continueing with my previous thread, the other situation.

Patient: 83'944

Symptums:
The car tends to run really rich, spending a bunch of gas and spewing dark smoke when I accelerate. I have changed the fuel damper, the fuel filter, given the engine an internal cleaning, changed the spark plugs. I still have to change the oxygen sensor.

What other culprits could there be?

Vacuum leak. Check the J boot very carefully. They tend to have small cracks that are barely visable. Also look for busted or pulled vacuum lines as well.

I rehosed all the vaccum lines (but did not check the J boot. It has power, what it does is smoke to much.

Do you mean "fuel regulator" or have you only replaced the damper? The regulator would be the first of the two to replace, since it tends to fail in "rich" mode.

For the oxygen sensor, get the single wire Bosch replacement (do a search for the exact Bosch part number) at any aftermarket VW parts shop. Costs around $25. Easy DIY.

As was stated in Rock's thread a while ago, check the AFM!

Sorry, I changed the fuel regulator, not the damper
