Default 1983 Factory Alarm System Question

Does anyone know how the factory '83 alarm system operates? I am particularly insterested in the switch in the quarter panel - how is it wired, what does it control, what voltage readings are "normal" in the armed and disarmed state? My car has a hacked in knife switch and I am trying to straighten this mess out. I have the wiring diagrams, but they do not include this system. Thanks!

There are only 2 wires in the side fender panel IIRC, and they will run to box on the firewall behind the console and into the engine bay from there. If you lift up the door sill plate and the carpet you can get to them, mine looked like factory speaker wire, re/br pair I believe. Oh, pull the black vent cover on the door jamb and you will have clear access to the wires from there as well. My system was already removed by PO's and I just had to remove what they had left. Sorry I can't be of more help.
