the heater works great( that is verified by my 10yr girl who sits in the back seat...Daddy turn down the heater its bloody hot). my question is that I can not get the heat to come out of the defroster. Is is possible that a spring is disconnected and the flap is not up to let the blowed heat up?

Early 944's require the dash vents to be closed to divert the air to the windshield defoster. Have you closed the vents? If yes, then the cable is probably inoperative, for various reasons.

I had the same thing, however, my dash flap control, that adjust air to the center or defrost (right side one) was controlling the heater valve behind the engine! Holy cr*p, previous owner problem no doubt. Anyway, short of the long version I had to take the dash apart and swap cables. Major PITA. Everything works great now, but in the process it was easy to see if anything wasn't just right, the cables would need adjustments.

If I can remember correctly, when I swaped my tach to the center position and fixed the heater bowden cables at the same time, the cable that loops back is for the right side defroster vent control and the defroster flap arm is located on the left side of the heater box (way up high) behind the dash. Correct me if I'm wrong on this though. I'd check there to see if the cable is moving anything first. Tip: don't bend or put a kink in the any of the cables, getting them back straight is whole job too!
