Default Saw this Proposal for a new 914 on Motor trend, would you buy one?

Was just at the Motor Trend web site and they had a section on future cars that they think should be built. One of their proposals was a new 914 costing around $30,000. THey propose the car would have a form of the Subaru WRX STi engine which is a turbo charged boxer flat 4 with about 300hp. For a picture and more detail of what Motor trend thinks the car should look like Click here:

Motor Trends proposal for a new 914 along with some other new cars

Personally i would think it would be a great idea and great business decition. I know if i had the money if one came out i would at least strongly consider buying one.

Porsche already has an entry-level mid-engined two-seater that appeals to the younger crowd. Plus, the $30K price point is unrealistic, IMHO.

It was bad enough the 914 was sold as a VW in Europe and a Porsche in the USA. Now they want to drop a Subarur motor into their next car? No way.

yup, i wouldn't buy it personally, subarus are just way way way too unreliable, and that wouldn't make good sense for a motor for that car....
I agree $30k is NEVER gonna happen.

I would rather see the 1.8T or 2.0T mounted transverse and mid in a small 2-place targa, Could be a fun car and it'd be interesting to see what Porsche could do with that motor.

Why on earth would they put someone else's engine in it? And especially, why would they put in an engine that's basically a copy of their own design?

I would love to see a neo 914...a subby engine (not that they are bad) in it doesn't really have me reaching for my wallet. In my mind I would want a new 914 to be designed w/ the sole intention of competing w/ the elise (and elise based cars) not to capitalize on the "I want a new porsche but can't afford a Boxster market"

The new ferrari dino and ferrari going public make me want to swallow razor blades...

Build it with a 1.8T. Same pedigree as the original. I have owned a 1973 914 2.0, 1974 9142.0 Special Edition and a 1971 914-6. 914's were/ are wonderful cars. I have been "eye balling" a '73 2.0 with almost no rust, near my house. I also have access to a built 1.8T motor..............

I do think Porsche would be a company that should have interest in trying to battle elise, Especially since noone else has really stepped up.

Would it really be that hard for porsche to just detune or slim down the boxster engine for a sub 30k car? I mean, for sub 30k, I don't know how perfect it needs to be... It's not like they would need to engineer it for years to get the optimal HP, it would be a basic no frills boxster engine, in this new 914 body.
