Default GB: Performance Aluminum Radiator

Ok, this is a feeler to see how many are interested in participating in a group buy on a custom made all welded aluminum radiator. Griffin radiators is willing to make a direct replacement radiator for our 944's. I would ship my crappy plastic radiator to Griffin as a template. They are willing to make one or as many as we like. Approximate price for one is $550 (list price at Porsche, crappy stock plastic, is $541.49!). The price for 5 is cheaper than 1. 10 cheaper than 5, etc.

Lets get a count of those interested and then I can accurately price.

I don't know if you've seen the all-aluminum radiator that's been on eBay for the past couple months - but it was selling for $250 or so.

Even Performance Products had one that I bought and would have installed if it didn't come to me in a mangled package. It was only $499.

Hmm, is the radiator a commonly replaced item?

The one on ebay is built buy a guy in Chicago that spent many years building ICs and radiators for Grand Nationals. I haven't seen one personally, but it should be more effective than the stock radiator. I have heard it is a good upgrade if you plan to put a front mount intercooler or oil cooler in as it would block some airflow to the radiator. I can't find the link to it though.

Oh yeah, you can also get a factory one on ebay for around $250. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33602

Entropytec is the username of the ebayer that builds 951 radiators. Here is one he built for a viper:

Thanks guys,

Does anyone have any purchase experience from this E-Bay source? I would not want to set up a group buy and lead any of our rennlist family astray. Griffin is a large manufacturer, so there will be no problems here. His stuff looks comparable to Griffin's though.

How would it work on E-Bay.....a group bid?

The previous owner of my car has a 951 that he replaced the red. from this seller on Ebay. i have seen it in person and it is probably the best put together radiator Ive seen. The price was great, it was shipped the day after payment was received and received by the buyer 4 days later.

Unfortunately I haven't seen one. I just looked into a while back.

Why are you interested in these Bill? I came to the conclusion that the stock radiator (unless it needs replacement) is adequate up into much higher HP ranges. If my stock rad where damaged, I would definitely get one of the ebay ones.

You can look at the feedback this guy has on ebay. I don't think he has feedback regarding a 944, but he does for other cars.

The end tanks on the factory radiator are plastic.

Macnewma,

Yes, my stock radiator has sprung a leak. I have not had overheating problems, so as you say the stock radiator works fine up to the point where the plastic end cap seals leak. In my case at 78k miles. If the factory part costs $550, why not get a better product for similar money. Or, if there is enough interest, "group buy", for an even better price.

Griffin has a very good rep from what I know. If Entropy Tech can make one that is comparable in quality to a Griffin and was cheap then I would say go with Entropy. In either case if I have any money after getting married this spring and rebuilding the rear end of my car I am definitely game for one. In fact I might flip flop rad for rear end just to get in on the group buy.

I completely agree. Sorry to hear about your radiator. I would look into getting either a factory one for ~$250 or have one made by the guy on ebay. The Griffin one is just far too expensive and looks no better than the custom ebay one in my opinion.
