Seriously, the 944 is one of the best designed cars (and best looking too, I might add) that Porsche has ever built and it has tremendous potential. Are they not bringing it back because it would seriously put a dent in their 911 sales? Or would it just be too user friendly for all the backyard mechanics.

the good part about the 944s is that theyre arent like new cars. theyre 'special'. bringin them back wouldnt be the same. once the redid them theyd prolly suck. besides, what would everyone write on here if we all got new 944s that didnt have all the minor problems.

Should they bring back the original 944? No
Would I like Porsche to rework it entier lineup and add a "budget" coupe? Yes
I think that porsche is shooting for the "budget" coupe with the Boxster coupe pictures of keep surfacing of. While it is not going to cost less than 50k we have to consider that the 944s were not exactly cheap when they went out production. So in 5 or 6 years after production begins there should be a new bargain in the porsche world. Right now boxster are incredible bargains in my mind, and a hell of a lot of fun to drive (sure they are not easy to work on, but what modern car is?)

I agree that by today's standards the 944 is not up to par, but the idea of an updated 944 with reworked suspension, brakes, Front engine/Rear transaxle Design and at reasonable cost point, would be an extremely attractive alternative to both the 911 and the Boxster.

I was thinking more along the lines of the evolution of the 968. Yeah I agree that wouldn't work to bring back the exact 944, but bringing back the same idea would be awesome. Being that the 944 came and went helps its value and its mystique. I would hate it if all the sudden all the tuners were rolling around in a 944 and mine was no longer a rare thing to see. Honestly that is half of the draw for me, rarity. You're turning peoples heads and its just a 10 grand car.

I was sort of thinking along the lines of what Ford has done with the new Cobra, Mustang and yes even the GT. The new 944 would be a different car but it would inherently be a Front engine/rear transaxle car with the soul of the original 944.
I personally have never liked the boxster. The side profile of the Boxster just doesn't do it for me and I really like the idea of having some sort of "rear seat" in the car. The 944 is simply a better designed car with a lot more potential for modification.

I think that would be sweeet. A reworked new 944, 235-250hp NA engine, 16valves, Varaible valve timming and lift on intake and exhaust, Variable lenght intake runners, 3.0liters, Timming CHAIN, 8,000 rpm redline, with a sweet six speed, front engine rear wheel transaxle, 2600-2700lbs, 50/50 weight dist. 0.95-1.0G's on the skid pad. 0-60 5.0 secs, top speed 165mph, Modern gauges with a HUD on the windsheild, 2+2 seating folding rear seats, Gotta keep the flip up head lighs (old school put its part of what the 944 is) Also gotta have the removable sun roof (Love it) Clean it up make it a little more aggresive looking, roll it out with 2 different models street and track, kinda like what Nissan did with the 350Z. Price range??? $30-$36,000. Only thing is I think It would hurt Boxster sales, but it woule be nice to see something other then a 911 body style

Lets see. Being a budget model it would have to be less powerful than a boxster and have a cheaper interior. The above description sounds better and faster than a boxster
Porsche would not be able to create a successful budget sports car. This market is dominated by the turbocharged econoboxes out of japan. A porsche even CLOSE to that price range would be a laughing stock.
Dream we can, but its very unlikely. A 928 revival of lets say, a 80-90k base price is a lot more realitistic. That way, well have a better suited zo6 fighter.

it would be a marketing disaster to market it as a return of the 944. only cars like the original mustang that have a huge following do well with a "return" or "retro" edition. the 944 does not have a large enough following
