Hey, I resent that remark!

Rock:

It is obvious to me that the problems you are having are due to the fuel/air mixture being WAY too rich. White smoke is coolant, blue smoke is oil, black smoke is unburned fuel.

I would start by checking the O2 sensor.

Well the 02 sensor was recently Replaced, but the FRwilk chip ignores the o2 sensor. Im gonna check out the dampner and regulator, theyre not too badly priced so i guess ill do those.

Matt... I think im gonna keep the yellow right now. I would feel bad selling it anyway, as it doesnt run, has the OLD tires from the black which should be illegal, and is completly stripped of interior.

IF you want a good winter driver, there is a car 2 miles from me.

Its a later car, 1987 i think. It was a silver with a maaco green repait, interior is damn near flawless, good tires, phone dials, drives real nice, 134,000 miles, black/beige interior (like my black, driver seat has a very small tear, the center console is what is the worst). The guy is asking 1700 for it. IT IS A BETTER CAR THAN THE YELLOW WITH FEWER PROBLEMS. 1700, and its real close to me. Ask me if youre interested the guy was nice and willing to negotiate.

Did you check the tire pressure?

The first thing I would check is the AFM and idle air mixture adjustment. You are running rich and if you have tears in your eyes when you are by the exhaust, its rich. If you pop the cover off the AFM, disconnect the O2 sensor and turn the AFM "dial" clockwise, you can tell whether the mixture is proper or not by the engine rpm. Most of the time, THIS IS THE PROBLEM. Before you go waste your time somewhere else, check this first as it will take someone who knows what they are doing 5 minutes to do with no parts replacement.

Also get a vacuum gauge and measure the actual vacuum at the FPR, the dampender and anything else that's T'd to those lines.

guys i dont think the O2 sensor is doing anything. The O2 sensor is ignored, the DME is forced into a mixture by the FRwilk chip.

All looked good, ran pretty good when I did the testdrive after I put it back together. Is this a new problem Rock? Did the problem occour immideately after the install of the chip?

Tammy's 85.5 smokes (terribly rich) bad on really really cold startups and runs like *** untill it warms a little. I fire it up and hold light constant throttle untill it cleans up, about 15-30 secs.

I call mixture problems. take off the wilks chip, check out the FPR, there are testing procedures on clarks garage, and check all the injectors and everything, like said before, then try the AFM, I mean your gonna have to end up testing it all, thats part of owning and maintaining cars, haha!

If you get stuck, take it somewhere, don't feel bad about doing that.

Guys, AFM will cause major mixture problems. It is one of the main ways a DME determines how much fuel to inject. Try the 5 min solution.

Well ive always noticed this smell even before the install, and its always been hard to start since ive had it.

The problem is REALLY noticable on the highway, you arent in the high rpms too long when street driving so its not as noticable. He said he noticed it when we were on the highway. 3rd started the smokey and 4th was where i filled I-75 up. I didnt go to 5th because I dont have a speedo and i think i was going pretty fast getting up there in 4th.

I think the problem has always been there, except the chip just is making it more noticeable. The chip has an adaptor, to where I can pull it out and have the stock configuration. It still gets smokey then, checked the oil its fine.

Ill give Legolands suggestion a try when it warms up here. Ill keep ya guys informed. Thanks for the feedback.

Rock, what type of mileage are you getting? I have the chip also on my 944 and i cant do much better than 20 miles to the gallon with it usually being around 16-18 mpg.

I was wondering, would a bad fuel pressure regulator cause the car to idle rough intermittenly? Usually my car idles fine when in neutral sitting at a traffic light, but sometimes it idles fairly rough, with it dropping to around 600-850 rpms. Even without running the chip i was getting poor mileage (again, no better than 21-23mpg). So i am starting to run down the list of things that would possibly cause poor mileage.

Quick Reply: Bad Gas mileage, lots of smoke, and a horrible smell.
