Karl2bdc, exactly what I do. If you get them too far apart, you're using 2 hands, and you'll crack your knuckles for sure if it comes loose. Lots of PB blaster, flare wrenches, and some patience and it will come out.
Are you sure it needs a fuel pump?
Depending on if there are covers on the bottom of the fuel pump or not, they can be a real pain to get off so that you can get at the fuel pump.

All good suggestoins here Jaime. One other thing to note, I might be wrong, but one side of the fittings on the fuel filter is left hand thread. Can't remember which one, but beware, you might be tightening a fitting you think you are loosening.

Oh and you can minimize the pressure in the fuel line by pulling the fuel pump relay and running the car until it dies. Still a good idea to clamp off the line and wear eye protection though.

get some properly sized line wrenches..they come in handy.

Oh and i have taken off both with just regular box end wrenches no problem
