what oil does your 944's like the most?

I used to run 10W-30 on my 924S until i realized teh factory manual really recommends 10W-40. Been using that since on the 924S and on the 944. The previous owner was using dino oil and i have yet to switch over to syntehetic. I probably wont, too much extra money for me really. I was using Castrol GTX on the 924S...but my father got a pretty good shop price on 5 cases of 12 Exxon 10W-40, so it looks like im running that for the next couple thousand miles .
I generally change between 4500-5000 miles and use the Bosch or Mahle oil filters.

REdline 10 40 filter cahnge every 3K BUT the oil is changed every 6K if needed and 9k if not...........I like Mobil 1 too.....I am thinking of using Amsoil race oil.......I think it a waste to use synthetic and change every 3k.......might as well go with regular.

Except when the oil pan gasket let loose, and this one time in Pete's garage..

An NA doesn't have the same issues as a turbo engine as far as exposure to extreme temperatures (because the turbo itself has some hot spots). A good dino oil changed at reasonable intervals, with a new good quality filter, will do just fine.
That said, since I've had my track car (924S, same engine as 944 NA) I've run Valvoline 20w50 synthetic blend and the engine has held up surprisingly well. It has something like 130k miles on it, with maybe 90 very hard track days, and it hasn't blown up yet. No appreciable oil consumption on the street, though as expected it uses some on the track.
So, I'd say the bottm line is to use a quality regular oil and OEM filters, change it at reasonable intervals, and spend the mental energy worrying about something else.

I'm trying Amsoil 15-40w HD with a Mahle filter. I've had extremely good luck with this heavy duty synthetic diesel oil in my Audi S6 since new and it has over 140k on it now - drives like new. Low pour index of -47 deg F below zero. Time will tell on the Porsche 944, but should be fine.

I use Castrol GTX 20-50...I have always liked it in my crap car days...my Porsche Mech(older German man been around Prosche for a long time ) told me to use it also.....but..i asked about synthetic...is it cool to switch and what would be involved...he said not to switch it would cause problems...I get the feeling he is old school and doesn't trust synthetics for commcercial use or something...
my question being...what factors does one consider if they switch to synth from petrol based oil...?
