Ok, so my radiator is leaking and another repair is in order.
I got to looking at the factory part and boy you can see that Porsche saved some money here. The ends are plastic. The plastic ends are just caps that are sealed to the tubes via a flange and gasket. I hate to spend good money on cheap parts, so I got to looking for a better replacement. Fluidyne kept coming up. www.fluidyne.com
All aluminum, core and tanks. All welded, no press fit with gaskets. Nascar uses them. WRX racers. Muscle cars use them. So I contacted them:
And their responce:
So it looks like my vision will die, unless we have 50 people interested or needing to replace their radiators. Anybody comments?

I am looking for a high performance radiator for my Porsche 944 turbo. It has been modified from 180 rear wheel hp to 350 rwhp, and additional cooling is needed. I do not see my model car listed as being a product you supply. Would you be willing to fabricate a high performance replacement radiator for the Porsche 944 turbo?
Bill : At this time we do not manufacture a radiator for the 944, or any Porsche for that matter. We do not build one-off, custom radiators, due to our production volume of our regular cataloged parts. Also, we do not participate in "group buys" , we sell our products through our established Distributor network, and will not undercut these loyal long-time customers by allowing the general public to make a one time purchase at wholesale prices. At this time, we have several other project in development, and we schedule new development based on the number of requests we receive for a particular model. The 944 Porsche is not a model for which we have received many calls at all. Our Distributors tell us what people are asking for, and unfortunately the 944 is not one of them. A guaranteed sale of ten radiators would not be sufficient to warrant the expenditure required to develop a new model, we need to know we will sell at least 50 or so, in order to make the expense worthwhile. I am sorry I could not help you at this time.

Bill, I've been looking for a replacement radiator as well since I noticed elevated temperatures racing in the NV desert at 120-F... Will let you know what I find...

I had an Autotechnik radiator in my old 84 before it was wrecked. The tanks were actually metal on it. I haven't had experience with the radiator you said above, but I'd give them a call and see if they even make one for the 944.

Try calling one of the hundreds of "other" radiator suppliers. They will be happy to do 10. Fluidyne apears to be staffed with ricers and d*ck heads, when last I called. Not to mention the single biggest group of morons on the planet.
There are plent of places that can build you an aluminum rad. Be prepared because they arent cheap. They generally run in the 7-8 hundred dollar range when I was looking for one.
You might start with B-Cool.

Plastic is ****. Its only role in automobiles is to save cost and to annoy the hell out of owners when it breaks, as it inevitably will. Plastic has NO place in automobiles other than maybe tail light assemblies and a few other minor applications. I freakin' hate it. Think of the last several things to break on your car - what were they made of? Let's see - those stupid sunroof gears, the sunroof clips, the center console armrests, the DASH (vinyl is a form of plastic), etc. etc. etc. WAY more trouble than it's worth. Just my $0.02.

Fluidyne has a good name amoung mustang owners. I have heard of a few people having issues down the road due to core leaks that can be expensive to fix but this is usually rare.
