Question Low Compression MAHLE Pistons

Hi Everyone,

Do any of you in 944 land have a turbo 16v (modified S2 or 2.8Liter) that uses the MAHLE 100.0mm or 100.5mm low compression (8.5:1) piston? If you do, can you let me know where the engine was built, and how it has been holding up.. In addition, if you use the car for race/DE, or if it's a street car, and what mods are on the car....

Thanks,

Who did you talk to that has Mahle pistons 100mm for a 16 valve head????
Please let me know.

You have to sleeve them and use coated pistons from JE. If you had those pistons they would be worth $1,356,625.00

I spoke to an engineer at MAHLE in the USA. In addition, I know Powerhaus uses these pistons..... They are supposed to be rare, but do exist....

I was quoted about $400 each piston... no sleeving.. Ferroprint coated to work with Alusil... And no, I'm not smoking crack either... They DO exist...

100mm 16 valve 8.5 Mahle pistons?? I will send you $2000 for them by paypal the second you have them. No really. I have TWO complete 16 valve 2.5 heads on my bench awaiting sleeves.

That's strange how guys like Chrs White and Jon Milledge use sleeves. Also strange how there was never any model for them to be used in - yet Mahle tooled up for them anyway??

Maybe you are off on the diameter

They came in 100.0mm and 100.5mm the first oversize bore... I will let you know.. I need 8 as well, so after my 8 you can have yours.. However, I will not buy them unless I can confirm the tolerance group, and in addition, I am trying to find out who has successfully used them on this board if any.....

Are you running stock valves or 968 valves..? Hmmmmmmm....

I know somone that has 24 custom Mahle pistons that will yield low compression in a 928 5 liter.....oh wait, they are for a 6.1 liter bored block.

If you have a few people that need them, my friends had these 3 sets custom made, I'll try to find out the price.

Erik,

Those pistons from Tony are a bit different, if those are the ones Tim is using... The pistons I am speaking about are from the MAHLE factory that have a bigger fire ring land that is much better for forced aspiration. The secondary and third ring lands are also different. In addition, the Ferroprint is coated to work with Alusil.....

Not saying that the other stuff is not, just might be a bit different, including the important tolerance group measurements.... Either way, one is still free to use what one wishes...

You sure the compression is that low on the 100mm 16v pistons? from Mahle?

If you talked to your dealer, ask him which catalog is he referring to sine the 2005 Mahle catalog doesn't contain any 944 pistons (yes, they are out of production).

Or, you could ask for the Mahle part number, i have a Mahle/Kolbenschmit supplier here who has killer prices on brand new stock size and two over size pistons for sale. But those you have are not the ones your supplier has.......

A Mahle part number would be great

I will look up my notes and give MAHLE a call. I can let you know the part number confirmation after getting it from MAHLE.

I'm pretty sure the piston's Tim is using for his 6.1 were not from anyone else. Another local guy drew up the design and worked directly with MAHLE to have them produced to his exact specifications. This is the guy that has the red 928S4 running 22+ psi - and hand build his own crankshaft for a flat-4 motor on his motorcycle. If they started with Tony's design as a base I don't know.

This is one of the sister motors to Tim's:
