Default What in the hell is wrong with her now!?

Hey,

Ok, Having some weird things happen at highway speeds (mostly between 65-75).

When I first bought the car, it had the most aweful vibration coming from the rear. I was right in suspecting out of balance tires, so I had them balanced last night. Boy did it make a difference, but here is where my question lies.

When the guy was balancing the rears I noticed a wobble in the rim, so I asked him if i could see the wheel real fast. As it turns out, both my rear wheels are tweaked a little bit, on the inside lip. Nothing major, but a bent wheel is a bent wheel. I've never dealt with bent wheels before, so I don't know how they roll.

If the wheel is balanced correctly, will they still vibrate at highway speeds?

The vibration at lower speeds (55-65) is gone so I can tell that the balancing helped, but I still feel it a little when I'm cruising on the highway.

Also I hear this sound like a buffeting, like if your sunroof wind deflector is down, but the windows and sunroof are closed.

I don't know how long the PO drove the cars on the unbalanced tires, but he didn't seem to be the type to fix that sorta thing, just owned the car and drove it, wouldn't touch it, always had the oil changed and little places (shivers......).

If a car is driven on unbalanced wheels I would assume that it would put undue stress on all things that the wheel is attached to, but would this wear anything out? the car only had about 3k miles put on it in the last year, but I don't know how old these tires are, and I couldn't even find them for sale on Tirerack.com. They are Bridgestone Potenza RE730s.

I hope that nothing is really hurt in the rear, because I'm not in a position where I can do the work myself, as I usually like to do. But it does worry me as the balancing doesn't seem to have helped as much as I wouldn've liked it to.

Also the rear tires are bald. I have a new set of Yokohama AVS ES100s on the way to me now, but I couldn't stand the car having out of balance wheels. Thanks for any input ya'll may have!

You should have the wheel bearings checked out in the rear. If the balance was that bad it may have damaged the bearings over time. Could also be the shot tires making noise on the wear bars, or even worse the joint bead inside the tire if the tread is that far gone. Also have the axles checked while you're there, they may be sloppy and the joint ***** are making noise in the cages or could have groved the race. Does it vibrate in the rear real bad during hard take offs? If so its the joint(s) gone bad.

No, it doesn't make any noise at all at low speeds(0-60). It just makes them when I'm cruising along at any type of highway speed...

if the wheels are out of round, even slightly, it could cause the vibration you're still feeling. you can get that repaired, although I don't know what the cost would be. here in oklahoma lindsey racing's counterpart, mirror finishes, does wheel repair.

Depends if they are bent on 2 sides or one.

1 side - $75-85
2 sides - $125-135
