Default Best vacuum line kit for 951

I was hoping someone could post a link to the best, most complete, and of course, best value(notice: not neccesarily the cheapest) vacuum line kit for the 86 951. I've heard that this is a great preventative maintenance job and can even give back some lost power.

Thanks,
Chuck

FWIW, I use the LR kits and think they're awesome. No problems - in fact they solved a few.

I'm looking for a set for my 87 951, I as well would be interested in people's opinions of the various kits, I noticed 944online has a set of what appear to be factory lines.

I think dollar-for-dollar the purosil ones are better. I should point out (as was pointed out to me) that the factory lines are not "bad" inherently - they're just old. I can't speak as to whether the purosil lines will last 20-ish years as the factory ones did prior to my replacing them. That said, I think the connectors (brass tees) that are used by the LR kit are vastly superior to the factory "Y" connectors which (in my experience) were prone to cracking and failure, inducing vaccum leaks (granted it was an almost-20-year-old "Y" as a disclaimer to the Porsche engineer that came up with those "Y" connectors).

I like the kit myswiss sells. I havent installed it yet. It includes brass connectors and updated lines as well as 4 gaskets for the intake manifold. You might want to message him and get more info.

I also have the Lindsey Racing Kit. The hose is hose, can't expect too much there unless it didn't fit, but it does. They provide 15' which is more than enough to do the vacuum system in a 951. The best part are the brass T connectors where most others are hardened plastic. In all the kit has enough material to replace the smaller vacuum lines under the hood.

As Mark mentioned, Rennlister MySwiss sells kits for Turbo and NA. I got the one for my 944S and I like it.

Do a search! SFR sells some thicker walled hose than that "other" alternative. This may prevent splitting, god forbid it ever happens (in three different sections). My Swiss seems to make a good kit as well.

I've got the Lindsey kit and it is ok. You have to be carefull because the lines
split real easy.
The brass T's are nice.
I think I would try the SFR heavy duty lines if I had to do it again.
SFR is a top notch company and good to deal with.

I got the kit lindsey sells, the complete update, not just the small 5/32 lines that everyone just replaces. Under the intake there is a mess of hoses that can be simplified into three. I paid about 110 bucks from lindsey, and they didnt even include the proper connections for the larger hoses, and left a critical 90 degree elbow off the OA seperator out. I am in the process of ripping out all of the blue 5/32 lines, and replacing them with hose techniques 4mm black silicone lines. The blue color wore me out, so i am switching back to something less loud. The updated lines under the intake are all porsche hoses with part numbers, so they could be bought from anywhere, and I paid about $1 a foot for the black 4mm lines from hose techniques. Plus you would need to buy some 3/4 inch line and a few connectors on top of that. I dont know the quality of the hose yet though. Lindseys kit gives you 25 feet for about 30 bucks IIRC, and it is about 12 feet more than you need, so pretty much a waste of extra hose. If you do a search in the archives, you will find a write up i did, just look for Venturi tube update or delete or something like that, and the link to the word doc is in there. It will let you know what you are looking at. Quality wise i have had no issues with the lindsey stuff, i just wish he would have had everything in black instead of blue.

How much is it to get rid of the useless vac lines that 86 951 has? I know it goes into only 3 hoses but how much are they and where is the best place to get them?

Hmm, perhaps I will simply replace with factory hoses (for the right price). There seems to be quite a range of opinions on each kit. I wish to replace all of the small hoses under the manifold, I suppose most of them aren't _always_ under vacuum, some are occasionally under pressure.

Look for the last thread 3 best performance upgrades. One of them was vacuum lines and they listed some supplies.
