Either way, many people haven't seen it before and I thought I'd share.
Why does he need a 951 motor? Swapping in the 944 powerplant keeps it easy to work on and much cheaper to do all together! Even if he only has 143-162hp in there with a few extra for the colder intake... who cares? The chassis is light as a feather and it's his car! The main benefit of the conversion I see isn't the power gain, it's the RWD conversion and the fact that he has a pristine Porsche drivetrain in there!

Call me crazy, but I really like it. That is an imense amount of work, nicely done. I wonder what it drives like?
And, I'm suprised no one has commented on his handywork at re-covering the 944 dash. Looks nice, except, are my eyes deceiving me, are there no air vents in it? Or is it just the angle.

Talking about the air vents on top? Doesn't appear to have them.. Does the VW dash have less depth than a 944, so he had to cut off the back edge, which meant losing the vent holes?

This guy deserves tons of credit. Very nice job. There is NO WAY I'd put a 951 engine in that car - you wouldn't be able to hold it on the road! I bet that thing flies with the 944 engine.

A mk2 4dr golf weighs some were around 1000 to 1100 kg a 951 weighs just under 1300. A 951 conversion would be quite amusing but if done properly it shouldn't be terrifying by any means.

The power is probably right for the car, a 951 engine may have been hard to control. The engine sits a little farther forwrad in the chassis than in the 944. the MK2 golf is also fairly light.
I totally agree that the Vortexers are a differnt crowd, unfortunatley too many fast-n-furious street racing types have taken over many of the VW forums .
Love the driveline and interior work, but I'm a little disapionted in the euro-smooth exterior and engine bay, reminds me too much of american hot rodders.

I have to say though, owning a VR6 Track car and a 1.8t street car, I am far from slow or frustrated, even our 2.0 keeps up just fine while returning 36-37 mpg on the highway with A/C on and 30 mpg around the local area .

I'd give my left nut to have the same conversion done with the same quality to my Scirocco - except I'd throw in a 16V motor to keep the badge on the grill accurate!
That car has to weight less than 2,000lbs, probably can keep up with a stock 951 with more lower end torque - awesome!
