#2. Don’t underestimate the value of such good leak-down numbers and the cost/effort of cleaning up the oil leaks of the others. “Major suspension upgrades” may also have a lot of value.

The best value for your buck comes down to what your future plans are. If you're not going to upgrade adn keep the car stock, then #1 &#2 will be your best bet. But if you are going to be upgrading, then you're going to be throwing out the parts that make #1 & 2 more expensive. So you'll throw away $3-4k in parts and replacing it with a different set of $3-4k parts, so you've spent $6-8K. If you're gonna be upgrading turbo, intakes, etc later, might as well spend the lower money on #3 and spend that $3-4k difference on upgrade. Your $12k total will give you a much better car than #1 or #2.

I am planning on keeping it lightly modified. Just a fair weather/weekend toy.

FWIW I like #2 mainly because of those good leak down numbers and no leaks. Very desireable sounding.

i would choose #3. why? mileage and condition sounds comparable to #2 and the price is much cheaper. like danno said, if you're going to upgrade anyway, don't spend the extra money for an S. a COMPLETELY original S is the only real valuable S. any modifications detract from the value, so if you want a completely original car and plan to leave it that way, get an S. otherwise, save your money for repairs and/or mods. i personally think the turbo S is overrated since you can mod a non-S to S specs, but that's just me

Default I bought it!!

Well I flew down to Florida to make the purchase. Based on the PPI and my gut I decided to buy the 89S. When the PO picked me up at the airport I immediately knew I made the right decision. For a 15 year old car it is in immaculate condition. From the airport to the PO's house I was checking the interior, ride, trying to hear noises and waiting for him to kick the boost in. Everything was perfect. We were on beeline expressway headed east out of Orlando doing about 65 to 70 and the PO droped it into 3rd. The next thing I know we're doing 120 in 4th. AMAIZING. I am totally happy with everything about the car. I drove it about an hour or so back to Orlando and dropped it off so the Transport Co. can bring it to Indy. Should be here tomorrow afternoon.
