My bet is with the battery box first. Even if the bottom of the box is intact, if the drain hole is clogged a downpour can fill the box and water can go 'up' the frame and end up in the pass. footwell.

You can use a piece of weedeater line to clean out your sunroof and rear hatch drain tubes. I usually keep one in my detailing/wash kit. A long zip tie is great for the rear hatch slits.

Sit a large sponge in the pass. footwell until you figure out the problem if more rain is expected.

How about the driver's side? That one has me stumped. How the heck did that get wet and nothing else?

Yeah, but my puddle is BEHIND the passenger seat, not in front.

I'm going to shop vac it when I get home from work tonight, assuming it's
not a block of ice by then...

Yes, BEHIND the passengers seat can be the battery box....trust me i really know this one.
If is was an early I would be positive but.....

On the drivers side I have seen stress crack the firewall near the drain. If it cracks on the drain side I could see water intruding was it ran off. (if it IS cracked you will be able to see it looking under the dash with the hood open...."hey, is that sky and trees I see?")

Thanks for the tip tcm. I'll be checking the battery box and drain. That sounds easier to fix then
a leaky rear deck.

Water in the drivers footwell usually comes from the under-hood compartment where the wiper motor is filling up with water. When full, the water spills over into the AC/heat ducting and drips down onto the carpet. Check the drains in the underhood compartments by the wiper motor and the battery. Mine were clogged and the drivers side floor mat was soaking wet.

Excellent suggestion, I'll bet dollars to donuts that's it. I haven't had that plastic cover (the thin one just under the windshield that covers all that stuff) off since I bought the car. It may well be a mess under there - I forgot to clean that out as part of my "post buy inspection / inspection / cleaning"!

A couple leaks I found on my car you may want to check:

1) gas cap drain hole grommet...this can leak down into the rear cubby holes and possibly make it's way to the rear pass. floor.

2) On the 85.5 and later cars, there is a wire harness that passes thru the cowl near the fuse box. Mine was torn and would drip water down on my feet or carpet.

Mine was leaking from the battery tray and running to the back. Actually it probably still is - I haven't treated that area yet. At least the car lives indoors.

And the thread circles back again

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showt...ighlight=por15

Here is the Por-15 writeup if anyone is interested. The stuff really kicks. I am going in next year and doing the whole windscreen to firewall area.
