Default Is this a bad sender unit?

Just a few minutes ago I was out doing errands and half way through the drive my oil pressure warning light (at the bottom of the oil pressure gauge) came on along with the big red central warning indicator (!) but the oil pressure stayed the same and the engine clearly was running fine. On the way home it shut off and everything was back to normal.

Sender unit or just 20 year old electronics?

if the oil pressure gauge stayed the same then i would say you're safe...but then again you have to think about railroad crossings...if sometimes the light goes off and no train comes...don't you think sometimes a train could be coming and the lights don't come on?

oh oops i forgot to answer your question. i don't know if it's a bad sending unit or not. because if it was a bad sending unit your oil pressure reading would be affected. so i think it may just be a short along the line with like you said...20 year old electronics

The senders have two outputs, one triggers the lights, one sends a signal to the needle itself. I think if his needle was moving, then he should be ok.

If you check your sender, one wire might be loose. Its under the oil filter, its a little cylender thing that bolts into the housing and has two wires going to it. Theres little rubber booties where the wires connect to it, under those are the thumb nuts. One might be loose.
