Hello List
I have just recently purchased a 1985-1/2 NA 944. I am really impressed with the car. I have been a restorer of British Cars for several years - Austin Healey and Triumph.
I had a problem with the turn signals and traced the fault to the hazard switch - by using the current flow diagram. How much trouble is it to replace the hazard switch? Do I have to remove the dash? Have have the swith jumped out now - the turn signals will work but the hazard switch works funky.
Thanks in advance.

85 1/2 usually refers to the late dash. I know the old dash's very well- but cant help on the later off the top of my head..

If it's an 85.5 (late dash) it's very simple.
Open the passenger door and remove the black plastic trim on the end of the dash. After that's off you'll see 2 screws holding the black trim piece that goes over the glovebox and holds the hazard switch.
Next to the passenger air vent is a small rectangular cover. Pop it off and there are 2 screws behind that.
Remove the round air vent grille next to the cig. lighter. It rotates 1/4 turn and it's off. One screw behind it. Next pop off the heater ***** and slider ***** on the climate control and pop the cover off of that. Remove those 2 screws and the entire trim piece should be free after you unplug the lighter and hazard switch connectors. The hazard switch snaps into that piece but the plastic is very fragile. remove it carefully.

Steve, if your blinkers aren't working properly, it's also worth checking the flasher relay in the fuse box behind the firewall. Erratic blinker operation will result when these go bad, and you can find the generic VW replacement at your local import auto parts store.
