I put some canadian tire winter tires on my 944, it holds wonderfully in the ice and snow. I took it out _once_ with my p6000's on it, and I got stuck on level ground...... Never again.
They're awesome tires for the street though. I also use my p6000's on the track, and they hold pretty well.

Interesting that it was snowing like gangbusters in Akron. 150 miles south in Dayton it was sunny all day. Hasnt snowed once here all season. Lake effect is weird.

I outfitted my car with a set of slightly ratty (but straight and true) D90's and nearly new Michelin winter tires for CDN$450...considering my insurance deductible is CDN$1000 I call this a good deal. Driven sensibly, the car is a mountain goat. Driven non-sensibly, it's a laugh riot!

Anyways, one skid into a snowbank and your deductible will be toast. Get snows!

My brother has a 4wd Ford p/u,that needs a p/s pump that he's selling for about $700. Cheaper than a crash. It's in Illinois.

Hey UD, we got 6=8 inches here the last few days and 25ish miles away my inlaws got nothing, granted the lake is only 3 miles away!!!!

I've just got to say..

Toyota Land Cruisers RULE in the snow!!

I thought my Quattro was awesome.. This tank plows thru ANYTHING! (size of a Durango and 6500 LBS probably has something to do with it!!)

Snow tires. Dedicated snow tires. Studded not necessary. I drive my 924S into the mountains all the time, passing the soccer moms in their SUVs like they're standing still, because they are standing still...stuck in an icy ditch with all four wheels spinning because they thing AWD and ABS make the car invincible!

I say, snow tires, and learn how to control a slide. 2 most important things for winter driving... sandbags are for wusses just kiddin...I just don't use em, nor have needed them so far in the 3 winters I've driven my 924S..

maybe substitute kitty litter for one of the sandbags, then if you get stuck you can do the kitty litter trick for traction. I once resorted to spinning my wheels up to redline in 3rd to melt the ice that was keeping me from moving.

Stay out of the Boost!!! I can spin my tires (even on dry roads) at will when the temp is low. Its all in how you dish out the power and leaving enough space between cars to stop.

Hey Mike,

Snow tires. Don't risk it. I guarantee you that you WILL slide in the snow several times this winter on all-seasons--totally unprovoked, despite how careful you will be. There is no question about that; the question is whether there will be another vehicle, guard rail, or something else in your path when you slide.

The confidence and control you get from the cheapest set of Blizzaks in comparison to the best all-seasons is beyond words. Find some way to get the money - sell something, get a credit card, ask for it for Christmas, beg your parents and play the "safety concern" card; just find some way to get them.

Well, thanks everyone but all I can say is WOW. The tires I have a GREAT!! I can't believe it!! There are some Kumos but aren't the high performance ones, but I mean, they just have GREAT grip! Last year I had the high performance, which sucked! This year I can't believe it, I am passing SUV's that are slidding all around. I know, I know, buy a beater, that is next winter for now. I am going to Chicago in the spring with the g/f but after that trip, she won't be a g/f anymore. So I am saving up for something else, if you know what I mean. So thanks everyone, but this winter is going GREAT so far even with the 8" or so of snow and single digits, the car is great, just TO cold of leather seats.
