Ok, keep in mind I have not been able to drive my 944S since it burped up a rod bearing in 2001. I remember the rpms dropping close to stall speed if I crancked the wheel at idle while not moving. I'm assuming my switch was already disconnected then?

There's not much to look at under my hood, only thing left is the radiator, A/C compressor and PS pump. I'll check it out during my reinstall.

If there is a recall, and you own a 944S, don't try to do the fix yourself. Take it back to Porsche, and let them do the work. That's why they call it a "recall". And from my understanding, even if the recall is 15 years old, they will still do the work gratis. And it would probably mean that if something went wrong after that, you actually would have a legal claim aginst Porsche.
As for the legal opinion above -- sorry, I think it would be pushing it uphill if the manufacturer had issued a safety recall, was willing to honour it, but the owner(s) had simply not bothered to take the maunfacturer up on it.
