Aren't the Fuchs the light racing wheels porsche WAS using?
When i go for my full body paint job, im going to repaint those wheels back to original black with colored centres.
ps i have the 16x7 and 16x8 ones on my 86 944 turbo.

One more quick thought. I never really warmed to phone dials, pretty much last on my list among OE wheels, but the exception in real life are the 16" 86 Turbo variants. Look better with deeper offset and lower aspect sidewalls. Not an option for newer car owners but a nice and often inexpensive choice for early offset folks.

Knock-off Fuchs verses Fuchs
Having a lot of 911 friends, and having talked to the local PCA safety steward about this very subject, let me add a little here.
Knock-off Fuchs are cast, not forged like the real ones. That in itself is no big deal, as there are a lot of cast wheels out there (PD's, for example). However, in the case of the fake fuchs, they are the same design as the forged ones. This means that they are indeed weaker, as to be the same strength as the forged they need to have more material in the areas where the forged ones can afford to be a little thin.
For the street, fake fuchs are just fine. For the track, most regions don't permit the use of fake fuchs for safety reasons.
My take on this is that for any set of 15-25 year old rims, real or fake, one should periodically check them for cracks or structural issues anyway.
However, for $1000 I would continue to look for a set of good used real Fuchs, that's too much to pay for something that is a knock-off. I'd rather have the real deal for the same or less amount of money. You could buy a real set of used 951 16" fuchs for that much if you are patient, although they may need a little TLC/refinishing.

I had a set of 16X9 replica Fuchs and they were heavy as hell, almost 10 lbs heavier then the real ones.
If you want real Fuchs I was about to put my Turbo, 16X8’s and 16X7’s with tires up on e-bay. If you want them let me know.

"To add to the devil's temptation, the lastest catalog from Mid-America has 16" Fuchs knock-offs; a set of four runs about $1000.00. I would love a set of Fuchs, but the budget will definitly not allow a new set of the real things.
Anyways, I've been thinking about the Fuchs, then I'm looking at the car and I realize that I really like the looks of the phone dials, too. However, I would like the 16" wheels with the slightly wider (8") rears."
You can get a set of 16x7/8" 951 Phone Dials. They're only 1-2 lbs heavier than the 16" 951 Fuchs.
Lefty, oven-cleaner will take the anodizing right off. Then use chemical (ammonia) polish to shine up the Fuchs. Then they'll look like this:
The 16x7" one weighs 15.5lbs and 16x8" is 16.5lbs. I never should've sold this set for $800...

Man do they look nice, Danno! I heard about the over cleaner technique but sorta chickened out on it after a failed experiment.
I tried the theory by spraying some on an old set of black anodized lug nuts and sticking them in the oven all slathered up with an off brand over cleaner. All I managed to do, in no particular order, was PO the wife, make a big mess, ruin a baking sheet, stink up the kitchen with blended smell of Oven Off and motor oil and earn a temporary nickname of "Baked Lug Nutz". Other than that, the test was very successful

So will Easy Off cleaner work? Just rub it on with a rag? How about the paint? Any decent way to take that off if I wanted to repaint the centers?
