My departed 83 was built in 8/82. It even had the place for a prop rod on the drivers' side shock tower. Based on the VIN info in the Porsche Family Tree book I got from PCA, it was number 3189. The last for digits of the VIN are the production number (according to the aforementioned book. My 86 has a build date of 7/85.

i THINK it's production number for that year model. I may be mistaken. He said that his was made in 8/82 but his last 4 numbers are 3189.

I think mine is 8/82 white/burgundy. Will check on my break to be sure.

I heard that there were waiting lists for the US release of the cars.
Mine was purchased by a Doctor on one of those waiting lists in Gainesville, Florida.

kind of offtopic but i looked at your sig...i didn't know you could get 968 style rocker panels for the 944? what's your source?

2 plans - get bottom part of 951 rocker and tie into existing.

Get actual 968 rockers and tie them in.

or..I guess that would be three..Modify existing rocker by building up with texture coat slightly.


Then - shooting with clear.


I love having an early early, I just want to update it a bit.

Everyone here talks about how there used to be a lot of porsches here. Not really the case any more. Strange seeing as how the university has actually gotten significantly better. I dunno.

Think that is the case. Of course I looked for the my Porsche Family Tree book and could not find it. If I remember correctly, the way the book explained how to read the VIN indicated that the last 4 numbers were the production number.

The last 8 digits of the VIN on my 83 were DN453189. I think the D indicates the model year. 45 I think indicates a 5spd, and the last four are the production number.

My 86 has a G where the D is on the 83s. D=83, E=84, F=85, G=86 (it appears that way anyway) The last four on my 86 are 1351. My 86 has a build date of 7/85.

Maybe someone who knows more about how to read VINs will chime in.

My 5-spd 83 has a DN460610 so I don't think the 45 or 46 would denote a 5-speed.

Hmm. My 86 is also DN45 (I guess I better find that book).

and whats funny is that mine sat in a dealers lot for 8 months. It was sold NEW from the dealer in Peoria, IL. 02/1989
