Default "S" vs na brakes

hi, Anybody know off hand if the "S" brakes for 87 are the same as na brakes for 85/2 ? according to Peter Morgans book the brakes on an "S" are the same as the 87 944. But I thought the brake change was in 88 or 89? Ive got some new rotors for a na. Would they fit the 87 "S" ? TNX Alex

No. Brake rotors are grouped as follows:

Front:
83-86 944na, 924S
87-89 944na, 944S

Rear:
83-86 944na, 924S
87-89 944na, 944S

Good Luck!

I upgraded my S brakes to 951 spec. Looks better, didn't notice anything on the street performance wise.

Rotors are with different offsets but are the calipers the same? They look to be the same but I never tried switching them.

I guess the rotor difference is b/c of the offset change, 85½ still used the old offset while the 87 944S has the newer one. Calipers should be the same on both 944 N/A and 944S, the S just has a different brake proportioning valve (33/5 IIRC).

Sorry it took so long to get back but I was playing email tag with the guy with the "s" I wanted to buy. Today is his last chance. I am in stratford ct. I have new rotors I bought from Ian for a 944 I'm trying to rescue from the parts bin, but saw an opportunity to get the "s". The na was a freebie from a friend as a project car for the winter. The car ran 6 years ago. So I'm doin the belts pump brakes ect. Alex

I expected a more linear torque curve than a turbo. I drove a turbo probe a long time ago when they just came out, and found it pretty fun. But at this age I've been kicked in the butt enough. I drive I95 a lot and think it will save me gas over my suv. Or else I better get crackin on the na. if this guy doesn't get back to me one way or another. OK huh? Bought a 64 ford galaxie in Tulsa a long time ago. Man it gets hot out there! Alex
