Default Heavily modified 944 type 1 inside. Lots of pics!

Hi!

As some of you know, I'm heavily tuning my Type 1 944. Yesterday we've finally mounted the front bumper and put the rear bumper on for show. Here are some pictures of the work we did:

Like I said, It's a type 1 (1984) 944. Yes, that's a type 2 dashboard (complete with type 2 airco and heater).
The headlights are from a Nissan 300ZX. The taillight mounts are custom made (welded to the car) and the lights are originally from a city bus. The rear bonnet (?) is from Porsche tuner Strosek (It also has a spoiler, not shown here).

We're not done yet, so I've got a long list of questions concerning wiring, so..

For more pictures (construction pics), check here: http://www.kogelman.nu/944.html

Regards,

Riplin

Cool color! Love the 968 mirrors. Switching over to the newer dash must have been a tough job. How did you get all of the heater controls working properly, and wire up the gauges?

Any plans to upgrade the suspension components?

The reason I'm tuning this car is as follows: I wanted to buy a 944 for a very long time now. I could have bought a Turbo and keep it completely original and be perfectly happy with it.

But I chose to buy an 'old and busted' Type 1 for about $1400 and make it the way I wanted it to be. If I didn't buy it, it was going to be used for the track and wouldn't have lived a long life.

Total cost is around $10,000 now and no end in sight (mony wise and idea wise) yet.

I haven't tuned the engine. Simple reason for this. I've got my eyes on a 968 donor.

tifosiman : I used a type 2 wireharness and a type 2 airco/heater. I'm working on a 968 donor for engine, trans, suspension.

Ummmm....I think he means hes going to drop a 968 engine right into the 944, possibly the 968 has already been ruined hence the statement "968 donor"

I think its cool. I love the color. Its not often you see many interestingly modded 944s. The headlights are quite mytaste, but it think you did an amazing job setting them up like that! I also think thats the best rear end ive seen on a 944 thats NOT stock look. I am really big fan of the stock rear. (its why i bought the car!) I can't wait to see yours finished! Goodluck and enjoy it!

Your workmanship I applaud, your moxy I applaud, your sanity I question...your taste, well, maybe we shouldnt go there.

FWIW, I like the front bumper. Its just from there back I can stand

Dave: I wouldn't dream of ruining a beautiful car! But that car had a crash and is going to be used to restore a 968 CS. The CS has a fine engine and trans and suspension, so those parts are for me!

Blue S2: Thanks! We started in september and hope to have phase 1 (looks) finished by the end of this year. I started planning and buying parts in may '03.

WOW!!!! I just checked your link!

Ok, everyone needs to check that link posted with the first post! The amount of work that has gone into this is amazing! I think it will give any one who sees it a much better appreciation for the work, even if its not their taste! Congrats on your creativity!

ErichCS: Yes, sorry about the wheels. I have the front wheels too (like the rear wheels) but the need new tyres.

And when the 968 stuff is on the car, I plan to put these on:

Workmanship looks excellent. I would hire you to do bodywork on my car.

Your taste, however, is questionable. :rofmlao:

cheers!

Riplin, I hope you have thick skin, because many people here believe that Porsches were perfect the way that they came from the factory, so many people will tell that they don't like what you have done. I hope you are able to ignore it, because your work is fantastic and very original.
