Default Help Buying a 1984 944

A friend of mine is thinking about buying a 1984 944 and looking for advice. Other than riding in a 951 at the track, I don't have much experience with this car. It seemed and I have heard the car is very well balanced and it sure is a nice looking car!

Any FAQ's, website or personal insights you can share would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

-Pete

Check for:
Records
Recent timing belt & Balance Belt
Recent water pump

Anything else that you'd look into in an 18 year old car, but the 3 listed above are of utmost importance. If they're not done, the price IMHO, would drop about $1,000.00 from their askin price...water pumps and timing belts aren't cheap.

Also, if your friend doesn't have much knowledge in turning wrenches, Lets hope he has a large checking account...

Do a search here and see, there are many similar threads, I had one in April of this year.

Mileage is relatively immaterial, but known maintenance is critical. Allow for $1500-2000 in the budget for immediate repairs and maintenance. If there is any doubt, plan on installing new balance and timing belts and rollers right away. Prices around $4000-6000 would net a beautiful car, $3000-4000 would be good car and under $3000 is either a real steal or a potential money pit.

Will this be a daily driver, project, track car?

Default Thanks!

Thanks for the responses guys.

The car is for daily driver duty in FLA. He isn't planning on doing any work himself.
