Hey rich, while we are on the topic, quick question.

I'm using bittornado, and downloading a lot of files at once etc... the past couple weeks. Do you consider any of the other downloaders better than tornado?

thanks

For what it's worth, bittorrent is absolutely not private at all. Not one little bit.

That said, let's leave the program open after we finish our downloads so that everyone who wants it can get it. Sharing is fun!

Azureus is the best bittorrent program IMHO. It's java based and works on OSX and Windoze.

You can get all kinds of stuff if you look and look frequently enough...

So far I havent heard of any uhhh legal suits against people USING it. If you ran a torrent tracker site (such as uhhhh exploding star...) then youd run the biggest legal risk, as you are the one enabling the system to run.

Unlike Kazaa, its harder to go after the people sharing the file itself since in BT everyone who downloads it also shares/hosts the data. So technically youd have to go after EVERYONE who downloaded the file, or the person who orginally created the torrent file. Or the guy who runs the tracker.

BT is best used for new files (latest illegal release of a movie that just came out in the cineams), one time shots of big files like this, or a few other uses. It isnt like kazaa where you just hop on and search and boom. BT depends on a tracker site to manage it all, and people called seeders who have the complete file to upload. If no one has the complete file, or the tracker is down, boom BT is useless.

I remember the format much from my hotline/KDX days, both great programs that got too overrun by people trying to make money instead of share files. Now I just wish my downloads would pick up a bit!

Hey Rich, what channel up there in the "great white north" is carrying the series over in B.C.? A quick look at www.thehistorychannel.com does not list that series (at least the carrier for it here on Time Warner), so is the carrier Speed Channel? (I am thinking Full Throttle instead aren't I?)

Bittorrent is also the preferred distribution method for most Linux distributions!
It's got tons of legitimate uses.

Ok - I didn't read the whole thread but I get the impression that if I leave this program open anyone that clicks on the link for this video will be able to download?

If so it's on my web server - download away.

Any reason why I can't upload this to my rennlist personal web space? Or is there a 100mb limit?

They dont download ONLY off you, they download from whoever is seeding (so it can be many people at the same time) and people who are currently download, share what they have of the file. Its sort of a big spider web or pyramid type deal. Its a bonus because if you want to share a file, its not only your server or your connection doing all the work.

I've tried bit torrent x3 in the past with no success. Just didn't work, incredibly horrible download speeds. I'll just hope and wait that someone will post a direct link for download (other than torrent).

You have to be patient with it sometimes. It took about 20 minutes before I was able to download anything at all, now I'm getting ~130kB/s. Almost done
