Why not sell the 944 and get a 951? It makes sense, and it will be faster stock than your SC'd 944 running 5PSI...

If you cram 1200cfm through the NA, you'll be getting more like 225psi @ 2000rpm and 75psi @ 6000rpm. That'll be good for about 1000bhp if you can keep it all together...

That'd be incredible but I'd bet the cylinders ruptured / burst well before that. . .

Not to mention i dont think the transmission would be able to handle that type of power. The ring and pinion would probably blow on the first venture out of first gear.

an electric supercharger isn't going to get you even close to 5psi, I have yet to hear of one that is at all succesful in delivering any power difference. Save your money.

"Electric Supercharger" is a complete joke / scam / rip-off. Look at a real (mechanical) supercharger kit; the best one I've seen for the 944 n/a (8V engine) runs approximately $6K - not counting the work you're going to have to do to strengthen the car to handle it. Please don't ask "can I run NOS?", it WILL get you flamed badly on this board (not by me, but it's one of those questions that all newcomers ask and invariably they get ripped a new one for it). To answer the question without having to put you through all that - yes, you can run NOS if you really really want to, but I wouldn't advertise it to Porsche enthusiasts as they'll immediately brand you a "ricer" - fair or not.

Anyway, there ARE forced-induction options available for the n/a cars (read my sig ). They typically are expensive, hard to come by, and require a great deal of commitment on the part of the owner to implement. That said, the n/a cars are a blast. I still LOVE my early '85. It was my first Porsche and so holds a special place in my heart. I'd sell my 951 before I ever sold that car although a lot of people would consider me nuts for that. They are what I like to call "nicely adequate" (n/a). They're not super fast, but decent enough to have fun in, they're very agile and stop quick. The "just go buy a turbo" advice is probably the best advice out there for someone that just wants to get into a very high power Porsche the most cost-effective way, but personally I'd just drive your n/a for a while and enjoy it. Clean it up, do some restoration on it, love it and learn about it. When the time comes, if you want a turbo or other forced induction car, pursue it.

I personally feel the n/a has several advantages over the 951 including weight (the early n/a cars are lighter than either the later ones or the 951s), cost of parts (there are HUGE cost disparities on a lot of parts between those components for early versus late or turbo 944s - early n/a's have parts that are almost fairly priced in a lot of cases. . .), ease of work (n/a cars are actually fun to work on - turbo cars are a humongous pain in the *** - ask me how I know. . .), etc.

I know I'm probably only one of a few people that will openly stick up for the n/a cars, but I seriously love 'em. I like the early style interior also - it's kind of a classic look, simple, honest, and unpretentious. I don't dislike the older one either, but I think a lot of people dismiss the early cars without really appreciating them. Just my $0.02. Welcome to the board.
